Marydenise (Sullivan) White, a life-long resident of Marshfield, passed away on February 2, 2021. She was the beloved wife of the late Charles J. White. Predeceased by her son Brad White, she leaves her three children, Kathy Adler and her husband Jay of Marshfield, Stephen White and his wife Patty of Florida, and Betsy Sylvester and her husband John of Marshfield; she also leaves her grandchildren, Tony Bonadies and Alex Adler, whom she loved dearly; her sister Bunny in Ohio; many loving nieces and nephews; and dear friend and neighbor Denis Daly, who was more like a son to her in countless ways. Marydenise is predeceased by her two brothers, John B. and William P. Sullivan.
Born in 1927 to the late Col. Denis P. and Myrtle (Chapman) Sullivan, Marydenise graduated from Malden High School in 1946. Her family had spent summers in Marshfield since she was born and that summer of 1946, on Ocean Bluff beach, she met the love of her life; Charlie had recently returned after serving 4 years in Pacific with the Army Air Corps. When Marydenise left in the fall to attend St. Joseph's College in Maryland, Charlie wrote to her every day for 2 years. They married on September 11, 1948 in the Immaculate Conception Church of Malden and settled in to a small cape house in Marshfield. Their home was one of the oldest houses in town and the renovations went on for years. Marydenise was an interior designer and together she and Charlie made this a warm and comfortable home where they loved to entertain family and friends. Marydenise loved Marshfield and was proud of her heritage as a direct descendent of Peregrine White (10th generation). Uncle Luther White built the old town hall and other buildings in town, and one of her great-grandmothers was one of the first teachers at the old Winslow School, built in 1857.
Marydenise enjoyed 20 years as a homemaker raising her family of 4 children, then returned to work in her chosen field of interior design, first at Paine's Custom Shop in Boston and later for the Ethan Allen Showcase in Braintree. After the children left home to start their own families, she and Charlie ran a bed & breakfast for 20 years, then spent their retirement years traveling and visiting family and friends. Charlie passed in 2004 and, missing the love of her life, Marydenise dedicated much of her time in service to her community as a volunteer at the Marshfield Council on Aging. She passed away peacefully at the Life Care Center of the South Shore in Scituate at the age of 93.
Funeral services will be held at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to the Marshfield Council on Aging, 230 Webster Street, Marshfield, MA 02050.
