Obituary

Mason Alexander Allaire, 18, of Duxbury, MA passed away on June 5th, 2023, after a yearlong battle with cancer.

Mason was born on October 21st, 2004, to Matthew and Amber Allaire in Derry, NH.  Together with his younger sister Sarah they resided in Londonderry and Bedford, NH before moving to Duxbury, MA in 2011 when he was 6 years old and entering the 1st Grade.

From the start Mason was a very active kid, participating in many youth sports including baseball, soccer and basketball.  As he got older, he played football, lacrosse, cross country and participated in sailing and rowing but it wasn't until he found track in his junior year of high school that he felt he had found his niche.  His other sporting passion was skiing which he started when he was 4 years old at Pat's Peak in NH.  Mason loved to ski, and it played a major factor in where he applied to college.  He was accepted and earned a merit scholarship to Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO.  He was planning to attend if he got healthy in the fall of 2024.

In Duxbury, Mason got to take full advantage of the water.  Growing up he would enjoy the drive on beach with friends and family. As soon as he was old enough, he earned his boating license.  Growing up in Duxbury is a gift that Mason fully embraced, whether it was boating with friends, fishing, lobstering, water skiing, or knee boarding.

Mason had an infectious personality that made everyone around him happy and laugh.  Always vocal and not afraid to speak his mind, he was never one to shy away from any occasion.  Adults were always impressed with his initiative and his ease of chatting despite his youth.  His enthusiasm caused a few calls home from the school, but the events were always lighthearted and goofy.  Mason being Mason.

Mason was an excellent student and had an admirable work ethic.  He would always do his homework as soon as he got home every day.  As a result of his hard work, he earned honor roll or high honors every semester.  He received an invitation to join the National Honor Society at the end of his junior year and was inducted into the ASL Honor Society at his graduation.

While sports and school were a big part of Mason's life, he also was a self-proclaimed nerd.  He loved everything about Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, The Marvel Cinematic Universe, Fantasy Football, Clash of Clans, Harry Potter, Lego's, James Bond, and Minecraft just to name a few.

Mason was friends with everyone.  At his own personal graduation ceremony, it was amazing to see all the different friend groups.  He had his track friends, lax buds, school friends, the core boys, junior friends and so many more.

In Mason's last year of his life he was a true inspiration.  His body and mind went through hell and back many times, but he always picked himself back up.  He would put on his infamous smile and would say I have cancer, but I love my life.

In the last days of Mason's life, he started a journal.  Here's a small snippet.

June 2, rough morning, lots of pains but I got through it and walked my dogs (for his job) and had a shake. Moped ride was exhilarating, wind pouring on my face and just me and the air, and all problems aside.  June 3, my filter dwindles more and more away like an old plant. Chilled out on the couch with Lily (our dog). Her warm head on my leg. Nature is beautiful. Sure, wish I wasn't dying.  Better to joke about then cry about in my opinion.  June 4, Rough day but recently I feel a lot better, calmer.  June 5, another rough start don't remember or want to talk about it.  I want to talk (Mason's tumor made it hard for him to talk), I want to be normal, blah blah blah.  I gotta deal with it and enjoy what I got. Time to try to enjoy myself at the hospital. I'm tired.

Please rest sweet boy you will live forever in our hearts and souls.  Thank you for choosing us these past 18 years.  We are blessed to love you and know you.

Mason is survived by his parents Matthew and Amber and by his younger sister Sarah (Sadie); his maternal grandmother Barbara Zahn and her husband Gerald; his maternal grandfather Bruce Rollins, his paternal grandparents Nancy and Peter Allaire; many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
