Gately, Matthew J. Jr. of Webster, NH formerly of Marshfield, MA passed away peacefully on January 8 surrounded by his loving family. Born on January 13, 1926 in Boston to Matthew and Jessie (Cameron) Gately. He grew up in Neponset MA and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Matt was employed as an electrician until his retirement from General Dynamics. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 54 years Catherine (Norton) in 2012. He is the beloved father of Maureen and son in law Mark Collins, loving grandfather of Katie, all of Webster, NH. He was predeceased by his sister Alice; brothers Gerard, Alan and Thomas. Matthew is also survived by his sisters Teresa, Marie Dolci, Claire Kenneally; his brother Lawrence and many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held at the MacDonald Funeral Home 1755 Ocean St., Rte 139, Marshfield on Wednesday January 14 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on January 15 at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 40 Canal St. Marshfield. Interment will be in Couch Cemetery.
