It is with deep sorrow we share the passing of Matthew (Matt) Oscar McTiernan, 22, of Marshfield, who passed away suddenly and tragically on March 11, 2026, as the result of a car accident.

Matt, whose friends called him “Keets,” will be remembered for his humor and ability to make light of any moment. He had a special way of making people laugh. Matt was also a deeply caring, thoughtful person who was always looking out for those closest to him.

Matt was born on November 24, 2003, to Gordon and CindiLee McTiernan. He grew up in Marshfield and was a proud graduate of Marshfield High School. He pursued many interests that reflected his energy, artistic nature and passion for life. For 7 years he was active in Scouting, he was a dedicated RAM football player from his youth through high school, and also enjoyed practicing martial arts.

Matt had a deep love for baking and the culinary arts. He was nearing completion of his Bachelor of Science degree in Baking and Pastry Arts from Johnson & Wales University this coming May. He especially loved baking bread, particularly his sourdough. Those who knew Matt admired his creativity and the joy he brought to others through his cooking.

He is survived by his parents, Gordon and CindiLee McTiernan; his brothers, John, Dan, and Jayden, who will always remember the light he brought into a room; and the love of his life, Grace Callahan, who lovingly described Matt as her protective, caring “big teddy bear,” who could always out-funny her. He also leaves behind extended family members and many friends who will deeply miss him.

Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of Matt on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at North River Community Church, 334 Old Oak Street, Pembroke, MA. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed by a Memorial Service from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

Matt’s life, though far too short, was filled with love, passion, and promise. He will be forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

In lieu of flowers, the family has established a Marshfield Youth Football scholarship fund in Matt’s memory to ensure every child has the opportunity to play regardless of financial ability.
