Maureen Elizabeth Andrén, 71, a beloved mother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 17th, 2026 at her home in Hanover, Massachusetts. She is survived by her son Kristofer and his wife Alessandra, as well as her siblings Hal, Kathleen, and Kevin Garrity and their families. She is preceded in death by her husband Karl-Erik, her parents Constance and Harold Garrity, and her brother Michael Garrity.

Born and raised in Deal, New Jersey, Maureen was a Jersey girl through and through. She loved the ocean and spent many summers on the beach soaking up the sunshine while socializing at the beach club. Maureen graduated from St. Rose High School in Belmar and completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology at Stonehill College. She then stayed in Massachusetts where she met her husband, a Swede named Karl-Erik, after being set up by friends at a party in Boston. The rest is history as they established roots on the South Shore of Massachusetts in the seaside town of Duxbury where they raised their beloved son Kris.

Maureen, also fondly known as “Mo”, was a talker and always had “the gift of the gab”. She could strike up a conversation with anyone and remembered every little detail. Her warmth, openness, and ability to connect meaningfully with others drew many friends into her orbit and fostered a successful career as a top performer in pharmaceutical sales. Aside from being an amazing wife, an incredible mom, the best aunt and sister, and a stellar employee, Maureen was known for her easy and infectious laugh. No matter if she was at home, at a dinner party, or in a doctor’s office, you would instantly know Maureen was present just by hearing her laugh. Many can recall countless occasions of laughing together to the brink of wetting their pants. Her ability to laugh and find joy in any moment never left her. She continued to laugh and joke right up to the very end.

While her laugh was legendary, Maureen was equally as remarkable for her resilience and strength. She was a matriarch and raised her son to have a strong sense of purpose and direction. She was devoted to the care of her husband through his battle with early-onset Parkinson’s and remained by his side until the very end. She faced her own neurodegenerative disease with grit, persistence, and a rare type of bravery. She was truly one of a kind.

Maureen’s legacy lives on through the family and friends she has left behind. “Team Maureen”— the team comprised of many friends who have stood by her side—is a testament to Maureen’s life and the type of person that she was. Through her own illness, her friends stood by her with impressive dedication. Everywhere she went, the comment from the staff was the same, “I have never seen someone with so many visitors”. Some say that the measure of success in life is not in dollars made or jobs held, but in friends loved. In that regard, there are few people more successful than Maureen. Her ability to bring a gathering together and lift it up with her bright and bubbly personality will be so missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

The family would like to thank everyone for their love, support, and prayers during this difficult time. They would like to extend a special thank you to the women and men of Team Maureen for all they did to brighten Maureen’s final years on this earth. She never felt alone or unsupported which her family is eternally grateful for. They would also like to thank Dr. Schmahmann’s Neurology team, Benchmark Assisted Living, Encompass Rehab Hospital, Beacon Hospice, and Solace Care for taking exceptional care of Maureen and making her final days as comfortable as possible.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 1st at 10:00 a.m. at the Holy Family Church in Duxbury. The service will be live streamed on the church website https://www.holyfamilyduxbury.org/ for loved ones overseas and those who are unable to attend.
