Maureen M. O'Gara Vogus of Mashpee passed away peacefully at home on February 23, 2022. Cherished wife of 31 years to Peter W. Vogus; dear mother of the late Sean J. McGrath and mother in-law to his wife, Pamela J. (McDonough) McGrath; loving Nannie to granddaughters Cassandra and Holly. Daughter of the late Michael and Anna (Egan) O'Gara, she leaves a brother, Robert O'Gara and wife Mary of Braintree and sisters in-law Evelyn O'Gara of Milton and Rayne O'Gara of Quincy. Predeceased by brothers Joseph, James, and Edward O'Gara, she was a devoted aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Maureen grew up in South Boston and graduated from St. Augustine High School. Proud of her Irish heritage—father Michael was born in Boyle, Roscommon County, Ireland—Maureen won many awards for her Irish step dancing. The O'Gara's are a close-knit family and Maureen loved seeing all her nieces and nephews at the annual 4th of July parties her brother Ed hosted at his Quincy home.
Maureen and her first husband, the late John J. McGrath, settled in Dorchester with their son Sean. She owned a grooming business "Pups 'N' Purrs" in Braintree with her best friend Debbie. She later moved to New York with husband Peter where she ran a grooming business out of her homes in Jackson Heights and East Meadow. Maureen loved her furry friends and never kept less than 3 dogs and cats as pets at a time. While living in New York, she looked forward to visits from Sean and his family, taking the grandchildren to the park, and treating Sean and Pam to a Yankees vs. Red Sox game at Yankee Stadium. Maureen was an avid Red Sox fan and even got a Red Sox tattoo in her sixties.
Maureen and Peter lived in New York for 20 years then settled in Mashpee for a very active retirement life. They competed in cornhole and bocce leagues and also traveled frequently to Cooperstown, NY to play golf. More recently, Maureen enjoyed spending time at cookouts playing croquet with her family and playing games such as Scrabble, Sorry! and Whist. She also loved when the Irish company would visit and she would get to see all of her nieces and nephews.
