Melvin O'Kelly of Marshfield entered into eternal peace on December 18, 2020 after a brief illness at 97 years old. Mel was born in Boston and grew up in Rockland, and later settled in Marshfield with his wife Virginia (pre-deceased) for 65 years. Mel was a proud Navy veteran, Mason, and worked at the Marshfield Country Club for 41 years as the golf course superintendent.

Mel was the loving father of Linda, Jim, David, and Beth. He had five siblings, all pre-deceased except for his sister Ruth in New Hampshire. Mel's family included his children's spouses, Paula, Laura, and Steven, whom he cared for dearly, and his five grandchildren. They all cherish their special memories with Grandpa, as they often shared in his favorite activities like playing cribbage or discussing current events. Mel was a kind and thoughtful soul who treated everyone as his pal.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and its restrictions, we could not see him during his brief illness, and the burial was a small, private gathering with Naval Funeral Honors. Mel wanted more than anything to be part of the Marshfield Country Club's 100th anniversary celebration in 2022, when he would also have been 100. Sadly, he will not be there. In lieu of flowers, we have started fundraising not only for a memorial in Mel's honor, but also for scholarships for students hoping to enter the golf profession.
