Obituary

Mike “the Hacker” Miller, age 71, of Marshfield, MA, passed away peacefully in his home on July 16, 2026 surrounded by his loving family.

Born on June 30, 1955, Mike was the beloved son of Louise Daniels Miller and Edward Miller. He was a man who lived life with a deep love for his family, and an appreciation for the outdoors.

Mike is survived by his loving wife, Anna Miller; his mother, Louise Daniels Miller; his children: Jesse Miller and his wife, Andrea Miller, and their children, Colton, Ella, and Vivianna; Tyla Miller and her significant other Xavier Colon and her children, Ayla and Eli; Shayna Duncan and her husband, Nick Duncan, and their children, Nora and Callahan; Aryanna Miller and her significant other Steve Maher; and Luke Miller. His brothers Kenny Miller and his wife Sandy Miller; and Doug Miller.

Mike was the devoted husband of Anna, and together they built a family filled with love, laughter, and memories that will last for generations. He was a proud father to Jesse, Tyla, Shayna, Aryanna, and Luke. Being a dad was one of Mike’s greatest joys, and he took immense pride in watching his children grow, succeed, and create families of their own.

Mike was a loving grandfather to Colton, Ella, Vivianna, Ayla, Eli, Nora, and Callahan. He cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren and loved sharing his stories, wisdom, and traditions with them. His family was his greatest accomplishment, and he never missed an opportunity to brag about the people he loved most.

To know Mike was to know a legend. He was happiest with a fishing rod in his hand, a hunting story to tell, or surrounded by the people he loved. He became known for doing what many thought couldn't be done—landing giant bluefin tuna from his small Lund boat. To Mike, the size of the boat never mattered. What mattered was the thrill of the chase, the beauty of the ocean, and the memories made along the way.

His love for fishing and hunting was more than a hobby, it was a way he connected with others and created memories that will be treasured forever. Mike patiently, with the occasional frustration, taught countless people how to fish, whether it was on a quiet freshwater pond, out in the saltwater, or standing on a frozen lake in the middle of winter. He believed that knowledge was meant to be shared, and there are countless anglers who catch fish today because Mike took the time to teach them.

His friendships knew no boundaries. Hunters, fishermen, police officers, neighbors, coworkers, and complete strangers all found a friend in Mike. He could spend hours on the phone catching up, swapping stories, sharing advice, or making someone laugh. He had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel like an old friend, and his circle of friendships stretched farther than most people could imagine.

At home, Mike's family knew the little things that made him uniquely him. The way he would put his hand on his hip, sip his coffee and stare out at the ocean, or the way he would work through his contact list and repeat the same stories to each person and somehow he still sounded just as excited by the last conversation as he was by the first. His unmistakably loud chewing often became the punchline to family jokes, and those everyday moments will now be remembered with smiles instead of playful eye rolls.

Mike's greatest joy was watching his family grow. He celebrated every accomplishment, never missed a chance to brag about his children and grandchildren, and made sure everyone knew just how proud he was of them.

While Mike's absence leaves an immeasurable void, his legacy lives on in every fishing lesson passed to the next generation, every hunting story told around a campfire, every phone call between old friends, and every life made better because he was part of it.

Some people are remembered for what they accomplished. Mike will be remembered for who he was: a husband who loved deeply, a father who was always there, a grandfather who adored his grandchildren, a loyal friend, an exceptional outdoorsman, a teacher, a protector, and, to so many, a legend.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the entire community for your compassion, support, and kindness during Mike's final days. Your thoughtfulness, gifts, meals, flowers, visits, phone calls, and countless acts of generosity have carried us through this difficult time. Knowing how deeply Mike was loved and how many lives he impacted has brought us immense comfort, and we are forever grateful for the outpouring of love surrounding our family.

Please join us on Saturday, August 1, 2026 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home in Marshfield to visit with family and friends and honor his legacy.
