Michael J. (Mike) Mulligan passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family on November 7, 2025, after a hard-fought battle with early-onset Alzheimer's disease.
Devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend, Mike's humor, generosity, and love for life will live on through all who loved him.
Welcomed to the world on December 18, 1963, by Susan Mulligan of Mansfield and the late Arthur Mulligan, Mike was loved by his three siblings: Robert Mulligan of Bourne, Susan Webster of Mansfield, and the late Lee-Ann Mulligan. From his earliest days, Mike loved deeply and was always able to be depended on, no matter the time of day or night.
After graduating from Avon High School in 1982, Mike built a business in appliance repair and HVAC, expanding on his father's legacy by opening the Marshfield location of Mulligan Appliance in 1984. He owned and operated the business for thirty years—working alongside his brother, Robert, for much of that time— before passing the torch to the next generation in 2019.
As the beloved husband of Lori Mulligan of Marshfield, Mike is remembered for his unwavering devotion to her. Mike and Lori were fast best friends after meeting as teenagers, and it was on that friendship that they set the foundation for forty-one beautiful years of marriage.
More than a loving husband, Mike was a devoted father to Mary-Ann Clark and her husband Joseph of Marshfield; Michael Mulligan Jr. and his wife Chelsea of Burlington, CT; Stephen Mulligan and his wife Jennifer of Marshfield; Sarah Ritchie and her husband Conner of Gorham, ME; and Kathleen Mulligan and her fiancé Kieran Ahern of North Haven, CT. His children remember him for his boundless love and steady presence in their lives.
Mike devoted himself to providing for his family, often working evenings and weekends to provide a life full of joy and incredible memories. He showed up for his children in every way he knew how, even attending countless basketball, field hockey, football, and soccer games despite his otherwise lukewarm enthusiasm for sports.
Mike is remembered for his love of the water, a place where he brought family and friends together. From days sailing on his father's boat in Cape Cod, to renting skiffs for catching Sunfish on the lakes of Maine, jet skiing on the family's red Kawasaki, and— in more recent years— launching his own boat from Roht Marine or the Green Harbor Marina, Mike found joy and peace in shared moments on the water.
Mike loved Jim Dandy Sundaes from Friendly's and never passed up an opportunity to go for a bite to eat with family or friends.
He adored his eleven grandchildren— Joseph Clark, Luke Richardson, Hannah Clark, Keegan Tate, Owen Ritchie, Finley Mulligan, Jake Mulligan, Evelynn Ritchie, Henry Mulligan, Charlie Mulligan, and Lillian Ritchie— and could often be found playing and adventuring with them.
Mike loved people, cherishing not only his family but also his many friends from all stages of life.
Leaving a legacy of loyalty, love, and laughter, Mike will be deeply missed and forever loved.
