Michael J. Norton, Jr. of Marshfield died peacefully on July 8, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 28, 1940, in Boston, son of the late Mary and Michael Norton, Sr. He was married to the love of his life, his late wife Carol (Sawyer) Norton, for 41 wonderful and fulfilling years.

Michael graduated from Boston English High School in 1958, obtained his Bachelor’s Degree at Northeastern University and Master’s Degree at Boston University in 1980. He lived in Marshfield for 56 years.

Michael was a Lieutenant in the Massachusetts State Police with 24 years of service and retired in 1988. He worked at various State Police Troop locations in Norwell, Yarmouth, Middleboro, Nantucket, Logan Airport, and worked at the Boston Attorney General's office. He enjoyed his long fulfilling career in law enforcement where he made lifelong friendships with his fellow troopers and their wives, which he considered to be family. For the last 4 years with State Police, he was an Academy Director of Training at the Massachusetts Police Academy.

Michael was a dedicated and loving father to Keith Norton and his wife Melissa and Holly Kiziuk and her husband Michael, all living in Marshfield. He has six adoring grandchildren, Ava and Gianna Norton, Nadja, Katerina, Brendan and Ronan Kiziuk, who will always love and miss their "Guppy”. Also survived by his sister Helen Roust and nieces, Kelly and Colleen, his nieces Marilyn and Monique, his nephew Michael and his great niece Alexandria, as well as his sister-in-law Diane Dalton, and nieces Kerry and Pam.

He will join in heaven his wife Carol, his sister Marilyn McKenney, brother-in-law Frank, brother-in-law Bill, nephew Billy, brother-in-law Bob and nephew Kevin along with many other beloved extended family and friends.

Michael’s wake is being held on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean St., (Rte. 139) in Marshfield. The Funeral Mass is being held at St. Ann by the Sea Church at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2026. Burial will be in the Winslow Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Hospice of the South Shore, 30 Reservoir Park Drive, Rockland, MA 02370 in memory of his late wife Carol Norton.
