Obituary

Michelle "Mikki" Lauren Grilli (née Hall), 74, of Duxbury, MA has passed away this October 24, 2021 peacefully at home with her loving husband Ed and faithful dog Watson by her side.

Born to the late Ida A. Hall on November 1, 1946 in Quincy, Mikki attended Quincy High School and graduated in 1965. She married her high school sweetheart, Edward F. Grilli, in August of 1971. At the time of Mikki's passing, they had been married for 50 years but they had been together for longer. Before becoming parents, Ed and Mikki spent twelve years traveling together with friends and family. They visited many different states across the country, various Caribbean Islands, and also took a trip to Denmark.

After high school, Mikki worked numerous jobs - first at the Harvard Countway Library, then for Rockland Dental, and later as a toy buyer for Child World. When she returned to the workforce, she began a career in banking working for Shawmut Bank with her sister-in-law, the late Linda Grilli of Plymouth, MA. Mikki remained a dedicated employee with the bank through a number of mergers and acquisitions, eventually joining her husband in retirement in 2010.

Mikki and Ed moved to Duxbury, MA in 1976, where they raised their daughter, Lauren, and where Ed still resides. After her daughter was born, Mikki left the workforce and chose to spend the next decade experiencing motherhood, which came naturally to Mikki. She cared for Lauren throughout her formative years, supporting her wholeheartedly and with tremendous dedication, attention, and respect. She coached softball, chaperoned field trips, and was an active volunteer in the Duxbury school system, especially within the Duxbury Music Department. Also during this time she helped her sick, elderly, widowed neighbor by offering companionship, running errands, providing meals, and helping out with household chores. A loyal Boston sports fan, Mikki could always hold her own when talking about the Sox or the Pats.

Mikki was also a fantastic cook and when it was her turn to host a holiday get-together, she would spend the evenings planning menus and rolling meatballs and spinach balls until her hands were pink. She would make brownies from scratch on a random Wednesday afternoon so that the house smelled like chocolate and comfort when Ed and Lauren returned home. She spoiled her family (yes - even the dogs) with homemade sauces, risotto, soups, and more. Her stuffed mushrooms, artichoke squares, chicken marsala, bolognese sauce, blueberry pie, and carrot cake were second to none. She will also be remembered for her love of gardening (irises were her favorite flower) and her many creative hobbies including tole painting, cross stitching, and decorating.

Mikki was passionate about animals and animal welfare. Animals of all species gravitated to her as if they knew she would protect them. She was the person who would stop traffic to help a turtle cross the road, or giggle if a toad peed in her hand as she moved it out of harm's way. Once, a stunned little bird fell into a pool. Mikki rescued the bird, dried it off gently with a hairdryer, and set it free. It came back the next day as if to say "thank you." Even fictional animals were important - Mikki made sure that Santa's reindeer always had plenty of carrots available to them on Christmas Eve.

She became a grandparent in 2016, and then again in 2018. She loved reading thrillers and could always guess the endings before they were revealed. She was a beautiful person inside and out - honest, fair, and always looking out for the underdog.

Mikki leaves her husband Ed, daughter Lauren Glidden and her husband Dan of Newton, two grandchildren, Ida and Riley, a brother, Michael David Hall of New Bedford, brother-in-law Dick Grilli and his wife Cindy of Hopkinton, and brother-in-law Al Grilli of Plymouth.

Funeral Services on Monday, November 1, 2021 will begin with Visiting Hours from 10:00 A.M to 12:00 Noon at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield, followed by a Funeral Service at the funeral home at 12:00 Noon. Interment will be in the Mayflower Cemetery of Duxbury.
