Obituary

Nancy Clark Butler, of Cohasset, MA passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at the age of 85. Born in Somerville on December 9, 1938, she was the beloved daughter of the late James (Henry) and Mary (Molly) Clark. In addition, she was the youngest sister of Virginia Kristo and the late Lois Farrell, both of whom she loved very much.

Nancy lived with her family and attended school in Cambridge, MA.  After graduating High School, she went to Rivier College in Nashua, NH. The Clark family had a cottage at Swifts Beach in Wareham where they spent their summers.  Later, she would bring her own children there to visit their grandparents to experience the same fun she had as a child. This was where she would meet her future husband John (Jack) Butler, whom she would marry in Arlington, MA in 1958.  They first moved to Providence, RI while Jack was attending graduate school, then later to Lexington, then finally to Marshfield in a home that overlooked the North River where they raised their five children.

As anyone would know it was a full-time job raising three boys, two girls, a dog and two cats.  While the kids were at school Nancy had many hobbies, which included knitting, gardening, quilting, sewing, scrimshaw, and decoupage.  She returned to college at Northeastern University where she received a BS in Accounting in 1981.  She would later use her accounting skills working for the family Engineering business at Image Acoustics, Inc.  With the kids now out of the house, she and Jack moved to Cohasset in 1992 overlooking the harbor, this was their dream home. Nancy always had a good sense of humor and was a strong independent person who believed that all women should have the opportunity to an education to be able to take care of themselves.  She was an avid reader and stayed current with the morning ritual of reading the daily newspaper.  Nancy loved both her children and husband very much and will be missed by all those who knew her.

Family members include her loving, late husband of 66 years, John (Jack) Butler; his sons Greg Butler of Plymouth, Stephen Butler and his wife, Sibelly of Portsmouth, RI, the late Alex Butler; his daughters, Elizabeth and her husband Greg Davis, of Marshfield, Tori and her husband Matt Curtis of Milton; and 10 grandchildren, Ashley, Jake, Mitch, Tyler, Logan, Devlin, Amber, Teague, Lola and Matthew; and great granddaughter Georgia.

Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Nancy's memory can be made to a charity of your choice.
