Obituary

Nicholas A. DiTommaso (Nonno), 90, of Marshfield, Massachusetts, peacefully passed away at his home after a brief, sudden illness.

Nicholas was born on September 15, 1935. Nicholas’ parents, Joseph and Phoebe (Guarinello) DiTommaso, had emigrated separately from Italy.

He leaves behind his beloved daughter, Diane M. Larson; and his two grandsons, Joshua E. Larson and his wife Charlotte of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Zachary E. Larson and his wife, Kendra Danby, of Marshfield, Massachusetts.

He also leaves behind a very special friend, Judith Brooks, and her family from Auburn, California and Hudson, Massachusetts; Richard Davis, a close family friend from Marshfield, Massachusetts; and his late faithful dog of 12 years, Brody.

Nicholas is survived by many loving nieces and nephews, especially Laura and Richard Brissette, with whom he shared many travel adventures to Las Vegas and throughout the Southwestern United States. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law, Joan DiTommaso, with whom he traveled alongside his brother, Joseph DiTommaso, as well as many cousins.

Nicholas was predeceased by his son-in-law, Everett N. Larson, Jr., and by his brothers, Peter, David, and Joseph DiTommaso, all of Marlborough, Massachusetts.

Nicholas graduated from Marlborough High School in 1953 where he lettered in football and track. He attended Worcester Junior Polytech for Surveying and classes at NorthEastern University. As a teenager, he worked in his family’s grocery store in Marlborough. He also took piano and dance lessons for eight years.

Nicholas later worked with his brother David at City Fuel, driving an oil delivery truck. Encouraged by his brother Peter, he obtained his real estate broker’s license at the age of 21 and began selling newly built homes in Marlborough.

In the 1970s, Nicholas made his way to Marshfield, Massachusetts, commuting back and forth from Marlborough for two years before settling there permanently. He purchased property on Ocean Street in Marshfield and built what became the HomeLand Real Estate office. Over the years, he employed many brokers who sold homes and managed summer rental properties throughout the 1960s, 70s, and 80s. Nicholas also built over 100 homes in Marshfield, naming a few roads in town.

Following the real estate market crash, Nicholas transformed his real estate office into Marshfield’s first 15-room rooming house. For the next 40 years, he dedicated himself to caring for and renting to his tenants, following in the footsteps of his parents, who had owned a rooming house in Marlborough for many years.

Nicholas loved opening his home to family and friends throughout the years. Summers were especially joyful, filled with visitors stopping by before heading to the beach and cookouts shared with loved ones after long days of clamming for fresh steamers.

Nicholas also loved sharing the local sites with his grandchildren and many others, acting as a tour guide to historic local sites.

Nicholas had a passion for everything cards, from Cribbage to Pai gow poker to Pinochle. For over 10 years, he spent many hours at the Senior Center. He loved playing with friends and family and taught many people how to play the games he loved so much.

Nicholas will be remembered for his generosity, entrepreneurial spirit, love of family, and the welcoming home he created for so many over the years.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, May 24, 2026 beginning at 11:00 a.m. and concluding with a Funeral Service at 2:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home of Marshfield.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Marshfield Senior Center, by mail to 230 Webster Street, Marshfield, MA 02050 or to Marshfield Veteran Services, by mail to 870 Moraine Street, Marshfield, MA 02050.
