In loving memory: Nora F. Dunk (Fleming) aged 92, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2026 in Scituate MA. Born in County Cork, Ireland she was a family-oriented, independent and strong-willed woman who loved to care for others.
Nora was the beloved wife of the late Alfred C. Dunk and adoptive mother to the late Dana Dunk (Cheryl) and Dwight Dunk (Rebecca), and stepmother to Howard (Marion). She adored her grandchildren Helen, Lila, Cherelle (Jason), Dana (Tana), Joseph, Justin (Heather), Adrienne, and Lianna; and her four great-grandchildren Miles, Jason, Savannah and Flora.
Nora was one of ten children born and raised in Kinsale, Ireland into a family of little means. Nora and her beloved sister Annie attended and boarded at the local convent school where they cared for and supported each other cementing a lifelong bond. After finishing secondary school, Nora worked in Cork City for a period of time. But she knew that she had more to give. The guidance that the Sisters provided while attending secondary school led to Nora her being accepted to nursing school in Waterford, Ireland. From Waterford, Nora traveled to Wales to train as a nurse midwife. She worked in Wales for several years. She loved caring for women and helping them through the life changing birth experience.
Driven by her sense of adventure, Nora emigrated to the U.S. in1963. She arrived in NYC via ship and loved passing the Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor, an event and memory she cherished forever. She started her U.S. nursing career at Lynn General Hospital then moved on to St. Margaret’s Hospital for Women in Dorchester. Nora returned home frequently to visit family and friends in Ireland. Later in her career Nora worked as a post-partum nurse in Oregon, and closed out her career caring for seniors in New Hampshire.
While living and working in Boston, Nora met the love of her life, Alfred Dunk, a widower with three sons. She and Al loved and cared for each other dearly and all at once she embraced the role of wife and mother of three sons aged 22, 15 and 10. In 1982 Al’s career led them to Portland, OR. Nora again moved 3,000 miles west and she took on that move with a sense of adventure. While on the west coast Nora and Al loved traveling the countryside in their camper visiting places far and wide. In retirement they moved to Sanbornville, NH, a place that Al loved. From NH they hosted family visits and traveled in their RV from Nova Scotia to Florida and all points in between. Nora loved visiting new places and seeing her adopted the country. They also made many trips back to Ireland to visit family and friends. Nora and Al were devoted to their faith and both were very active in their churches whether it was MA, OR, or NH.
Nora spent her last few years in Marshfield, MA and then in Scituate at the Life Care Center of the South Shore. Dementia stole the spark, energy and life force that was Nora. Her indelible spirit is free from her physical body and now lives with her Lord.
