Obituary

Patricia "Mimi" Deegan Nawn, of Marshfield Hills, MA, died peacefully on August 14, 2021 at the age of 89, surrounded by her loving family.

Pat grew up in Jamaica Plain and attended Regis College where she earned a BA in Social Work. She later earned her Master's Degree from Lesley University in Cambridge. In 1953 she married her sweetheart from Boston College, Tom Deegan. Together they had five children who they raised at their home on Glen Road in Marshfield Hills, along with their dogs, cats, goat, ducks, ponies and assorted other pets. Pat was a dedicated teacher and special educator for 25 years in the Marshfield School System and her love for children stayed with her throughout her life. Pat was a lifelong Catholic and devoted member of Saint Christine's Parish in Marshfield. She loved to ski, skate, paint and travel. Pat was most proud of her role in founding "The Apron Strings", a musical group of moms who played guitar and sang at local venues including the Festival of the Arts and Plymouth Christmas Tree Lighting. Their performances included TV appearances and local gigs at schools, nursing homes and community events over several decades. Following the death of her beloved husband in 1982, Pat married Hugh Nawn in 1997, and spent many happy years singing, skating, skiing and traveling with her new partner. Hugh passed away in 2009.

Pat is survived by her five children, Patricia Deegan and her partner Deborah Anderson of Byfield, MA; Mary Hare and her husband Jeff; Carolyn Deegan and Sarah Deegan all from Plymouth, MA; and Tom Deegan and his wife Charlene from Pompano Beach, FL. Pat is also survived by her ten grandchildren: Justin, Brendan and Ryan Hare; Christina Wieland and Elizabeth Sheehan; Thomas, Patrick, Connor and Meredith Deegan; and Chianne Deegan. She also has six great grandchildren: Grace Stewart, Leo Wieland, Bradan and Spencer Hare, and Revel and Hazen Hare. She is also survived by her honorary sisters and lifelong best friends, Betty Lamphier and Barbara Taylor.

All are welcome to a funeral mass on August 26 at 10 a.m. at St. Christine's Parish in Marshfield Hills (1295 Main Street, Marshfield). In lieu of flowers, donations in Pat's memory can be made to The Marshfield Food Pantry, PO Box 1097, Marshfield, MA 02050.
