Patricia M. (Horodiski) McDonough of Marshfield, and formerly of Duxbury, died Sunday at South Shore Hospital after suffering a stroke. She was 76. Daughter of John J. Horodiski and Elizabeth M. (Borggreve) Horodiski, and sister of John J. Horodiski, Jr. of Amityville, NY, she grew up in East Meadow, NY, and was a proud Honor Society graduate of W. Tresper Clarke High School ('64) and Mary Immaculate Hospital School of Nursing ('67).
Pat met the love of her life, Paul J. McDonough, at a Jaycees function at the former St. George Hotel in Garden City. He proposed on Valentine's Day 1968, and they were married 47 years until his passing. After her service as a nurse, she was the longtime bookkeeper for Goodrich Lumber in Duxbury and Kingston, MA, where she worked for 25 years. Prior to that, she was active as a troop leader for the Girl Scouts of Northern Westchester County, also serving a stint as Regional Girl Scout Cookie Coordinator, providing good memories for many other families as well as her own. She enjoyed sewing, calligraphy, gardening, and binge-watching NCIS.
She leaves behind daughter Susan M Moran, of Pembroke; son Michael McDonough of Levittown, NY; her beloved grandchildren Samantha and Sarina Moran; and her impossibly cute and utterly spoiled granddog, Buster.
Throughout her life, Pat bravely faced and overcame breast cancer and a major heart condition. In lieu of flowers, however, please consider a donation to the Joslin Diabetes Center, well-known for their work fighting the disease that most visibly chipped away at the quality of her last few years of life. www.joslin.org
