Paul Fredrick Dowd, 87, of Duxbury, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2026, surrounded by the family he loved so deeply.

Born on August 9, 1939, in Brooklyn, New York, Paul was the beloved son of Blanche and James Dowd. He graduated from Fordham University in 1961 and began a long and successful career in the financial industry. Early in his career, Paul was transferred to Boston to provide vacation coverage for Weeden & Company. What was meant to be a short assignment became permanent and Boston became home. Over the years, he became a respected institutional trader, working for firms including Weeden & Company, E.F. Hutton, and Furman Selz (ING), where he ultimately retired as Vice President in charge of Institutional Sales.

However, Paul’s greatest accomplishments were never found on a résumé. They were found in the people he loved and in the countless lives he touched.

After retiring, Paul became a caregiver with Home Helpers, where he cared for many seniors who quickly came to adore him. He also volunteered at the Duxbury Senior Center, driving seniors and helping them stay connected to their community.

Paul was the glue that held together a big, fun-loving family, and he took enormous pride in the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. He rarely missed a sporting event or award ceremony and loved nothing more than watching his family succeed.

He was a man of deep faith who also knew how to enjoy life. Paul was kind, gentle, caring, and incredibly patient. He was always ready with a joke and up for a good time, with a remarkable ability to make everyone around him feel welcome. He loved horse racing, his annual trips to Saratoga, visits to the dog track, trips to Duxbury Beach, and countless card games with his poker group and lifelong Duxbury friends. He had a wonderful sense of humor and an appreciation for the everyday moments that brought people together.

He was one of those rare people who was loved by everyone who knew him.

Paul met his wife Pat at Fordham University, they shared 62 years of marriage, she was his partner through every chapter of life. He will be lovingly remembered by his four daughters: Anne Marie Carroll and her husband, Pat, of Leonia, NJ; Patti Dowd and Gilly Kent of Marshfield, MA; Jennifer Anastasiades and her husband, Michael, of Hanover, MA; and Keri Sullivan and her husband, Stephen, of Milton, MA. He also leaves his cherished grandchildren, Meghan (Monte), Rosemary, Jack, Anna, Krista (Matthew), Alexandra, Mia, Kelsey, Lucy, Michael, Neil, and Nora, and his beloved great-grandsons, Emmett, Lucas, Quentin, and Rory.

Paul was predeceased by his parents, Blanche and James Dowd, and his brothers, James, John, and Kevin Dowd.

Paul will be missed more than words can express. He was the heart of his family, a loyal friend, a gentle soul, and a person who made the world around him a little warmer and a lot more fun. His love, laughter, and unmistakable presence will live on in all of us.

Family and friends are invited to gather for calling hours on Friday, September 25, 2026 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, September 26, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Angels Parish Church, 19 Spring Street in Hanover. All are welcome to attend.
