Paul William Kalapinski of Marshfield and Nahant, passed away on August 3, 2022 at the age of 77. He leaves his children Katherine Kalapinski of Marshfield, Jana Barbuto (husband Peter) of Hanover, and Matthew Kalapinski (wife Carolyn) of Marshfield, and grandchildren Grace, Josie, Madelyn, Kaia, and Nolan.
Paul William Kalapinski was one of a kind. His authentic and eccentric nature made lasting impressions on many. If you were one of the lucky ones to have spent time with Paul, you probably have a story to share or a story that Paul has shared with you.
Paul was a selfless giving man that knew how to make anyone feel special. Paul treated everyone as equals, and his highly empathetic gift, always came in handy when you needed your spirits lifted. He always gave more than he took, he was the-type of man that would give you his last five-dollar bill or shirt off his own back, without expecting anything in return.
Paul was also the friend or family member that you could count on whenever you were in need. He would sacrifice his time to help anyone, even strangers.
In addition, to Paul's overwhelming generosity he was a highly clever man and always had memorable words of wisdom for others, whether you wanted to hear it or not, Paul was usually right.
Born and raised in West Lynn to Sarah and Henry Kalapinski, he was the middle of three boys. A brother to both Jimmy and Gary. He grew up poor, in a triple decker on Elm St., and at 5 years old he chose to better himself and asked to be enrolled at St. Mary's school of Lynn. It was there where he met some of his life-long friends and where his confidence grew, you could say he had chutzpah! The Nuns at the school encouraged him to be the first of his family to go to college. They informed him about Northeastern where they had the Co-op program, allowing him to put himself through school. It was at Northeastern, where he excelled at academics and participated in both crew and football.
Upon graduating, he was drafted into the Vietnam War. While serving 15 months with the US Army, 101st airborne division, he was awarded the bronze star, a medal for sacrifice, bravery and honor while serving his country.
After Vietnam, he had multiple careers that ranged from teaching, working on Schlitz Beer Trucks, bartending, modeling for Ford, and working as an advance man for Ted Kennedy. All the while, he was earning his Master's Degree at Boston University in special education. He had many loves aside from family and friends, including but not limited to; cooking, sailing, gardening, writing and reading.
In his mid-thirties, he started a family and went on to have three beautiful children, Katherine, Matthew and Jana. Having kids forced him to find his calling in life becoming a salesman. And he thrived at it. He ran his business, Boston Industrial Products for thirty plus years to provide for his children. His children were his pride and joy. He raised them in Marshfield, MA and when they all went off to college, he moved back to live in his most favorite place on earth, Nahant by the Sea.
And back to this sea he must go.
