Obituary

Paul Powers passed away on March 9, 2023 at his home in Marshfield, MA. Throughout his remarkable life, Paul was the most supportive, loving and kind husband, father, grandfather, uncle, mentor, and friend.

Paul leaves his cherished wife Jean (Killackey) Powers, and his beloved children – his son Robert and wife Liane of North Richland Hills, TX, his daughters Pamela Gould of Kingston, Lynne Bamford and husband Jim of Chicago, IL, his grandchildren Jeanette Porter, Alicia Powers, Bridget Holt, Thomas Powers, Keriane Cully, Dustin Gould, Autumn McLaughlin, Morgan Gould, Daniel Bamford, and ten great grandchildren.

Paul was loved and shared many family milestones with Jean's siblings Jay & Sue Killackey of Brockton, Marie Killackey of Marshfield, Janice & James O'Connor of Marshfield, Richard & Joanne Hogan of Watertown, his nieces Kathleen Seaver and her husband Clay, Kristin Killackey and her fiancé Dave Wilson, Courtney Bochantin, Jessalyn Killackey, Siobhan O'Connor, nephew Peter Killackey, and many grand nieces and nephews, and his dear friends Cathy and Bernie Hennessy. Paul was predeceased by his sisters Dorothy and Lilian and brother William, his sister-in-law Carol, his beloved nephew Jimmy Killackey and Jimmy's Dad, Robert "Duke" Killackey.

Paul had exemplary people skills. He was the sales manager for the J. L. Hammett Company for many years. Paul owned and operated stores throughout the South Shore with his former wife Barbara, including the Assinippi General Store in Hanover, MA.  He then returned to his sales career selling office supplies to business customers in downtown Boston.

Paul loved the sea. For most of his life, he lived near the ocean. During their marriage, Paul and Jean resided in Nahant, Chelsea, and most recently, Marshfield. Paul loved traveling with his wife Jean, and enjoyed all Boston sports teams, especially the Red Sox. He had a deep admiration for Red Sox great Ted Williams, who he felt was the best athlete of all time. Paul loved the music of Frank Sinatra.

Paul made living well seem effortless.  Paul said he never had a bad day, and he approached life with optimism. He was easy going, smiled and laughed often, had a sparkle in his eyes, and lived his life with joy. Paul felt having a good disposition and choosing a partner with a good disposition were essential ingredients to being happy.

Paul loved to go for long walks every day. Every day was a sunny day when you were with Paul. He was a calm and steady presence and had a great wit and sense of humor. He was always interested in what you had to say, offering encouragement and a welcoming smile, support, and words of wisdom.

For all who knew and loved Paul, he will be remembered as the definition of a self-made man who had a wonderful time living life, a man who had good friends and a fine family who loved him.  We will dearly miss Paul and will keep his memory close to our hearts until we meet him again - some sunny day.
