Paul Edwin Sanders

Paul Edwin Sanders, 83, of Bourne, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2026, surrounded by his family. Born in Boston to the late George and Marjorie Sanders, Paul grew up in Dorchester, excelled as an athlete, graduated from Mission Hill High School, earned a degree in mathematics from Stonehill College, and later received an MBA from Babson College.

Paul’s professional life reflected his curiosity, adaptability, and commitment to helping others. He taught mathematics at Avon High School, built a successful sales career at Honeywell, and served as an adjunct professor at Northeastern University, Babson College, and Stonehill College. Later, he became a psychotherapist, devoting himself to supporting people struggling with substance abuse with compassion, dignity, and hope.

At the center of Paul’s life was family. He and his first wife, Margaret, shared a loving relationship from a young age and raised their four children in a home grounded in devotion and care. As a wonderful mother, Margaret helped create the loving foundation that guided their children as they grew and built families and lives of their own. After Margaret died from cancer at a young age, Paul carried her always in his heart and continued to extend the love they had built to his children, grandchildren, and extended family throughout his life. Paul later shared a long-term marriage with Doris Foss. Their years together brought companionship and a wider circle of family into Paul’s life, and Doris is respectfully acknowledged among those who survive him.

Paul will be remembered for his resilience, warmth, and enduring humor, including a ready supply of dad jokes that could bring a smile even in difficult moments. His legacy lives on in the family he loved, the students he taught, and the many people he encouraged throughout his life of learning, service, and compassion.

Paul is survived by his wife Doris Foss of Portsmouth, RI. His sisters Regina Steele of San Mateo, California, Mary Fritz of St. Charles, Illinois, and sister-in-law Phyllis Sanders of Bourne, MA. His four loving children Eric Sanders of Summerville, SC, Jennifer Bryer and her husband David of Avon, MA, Heather Teahan and her husband Robert of Whitman, MA, Shauna Sanders of Bourne, MA. His grandchildren and great grandchildren, David Bryer and his wife Jaime, Kristina Rupp and her husband Matt, Shawn McDonough, Madeline Sanders, Bridget Sanders, Cora McDonough, Caitlin Sanders, David Bryer, Trevor Sanders, Hadley Teahan, and Jared Bryer. He is also survived by his stepchildren and their families, Leanne West and her husband Tucker of Portsmouth, RI; children Ella, Logan and Luke. Laura Spiegelman and her husband John of Ramsey, NJ; children Lillie, Anna and Noelle; David Foss of Westerly, RI; children Josh, Emery and Riley.

A Funeral Service will be held at the Holy Family Church located at 601 Tremont St, Duxbury, Massachusetts at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 28, 2026, followed by a burial in the Couch Cemetery on Union Street, Marshfield, Massachusetts.
