Paul Frederick Sherman, age 81, passed away peacefully on March 20th, 2021 after a long battle with prostate cancer. Paul was born January 7th, 1940 to the late Theodore and Mildred Sherman of Pembroke, MA where he grew up with his late sister Susan Lonergan.
Throughout his life, Paul was a skilled & knowledgeable craftsman that began working at his uncle's auto body repair shop after high school where he may or may not have raced a local police cruiser with his modified 1957 Thunderbird.
Paul later went on to raise his own family in Pembroke which is also where he took over his family's manufacturing company, E.S. Ritchie and Sons in the late 1970's. Throughout his life and his later years he continued to work and come in to "The Shop" frequently and always had something to say. Paul had that presence and he loved to be at Ritchie with his "Ritchie Family".
He was a knowledgeable man that could pick up just about anything and figure out how it works and how to fix it. You could find him in the "The Shop" working on various projects. The one thing Paul loved was to keep busy and stick to his schedule. He always had something planned for the day and was not satisfied until it was checked off the list. He loved taking on projects and conquering them.
Paul also spent much of his life traveling the country with his wife in his motor home. Paul was also an experienced pilot who enjoyed flying with his family and friends throughout the country.
He loved spending summers with his family in Brooklin, ME and then immediately flying south to Naples, FL for the winter at the first hint of cold weather. He enjoyed doing various activities such as golfing, boating in blue hill bay, and sharing his many famous stories that seemed to always lead to a teachable moment. Paul was a member of the Marshfield Country Club, Blue Hill Country Club, and Eagle Creek Country Club where he enjoyed golfing with his wife and friends.
Paul is survived by his loving wife or as he called her "The Bride" Joan Sherman of 50 plus years. Paul is also survived by his two children and their spouses, the late Jeffery Sherman and his wife Debra Sherman of East Bridgewater, Kathy Costello and husband Chris Costello of Pembroke, Jon Sherman and wife Jen Sherman of Pembroke, and his ten grandchildren Justin, Jessica and Sean Mahoney, Cara, Ted, Kerrin, Kristin, Brendan, Amanda, Bodhi, and Lilah.
Services will be held at a later date.
The family extends a special thank you to the staff at Newfield House in Plymouth for caring for Paul in his last months and continuing to care for his bride. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Residents of Newfield House Scholarship Fund, 19 Newfield St., Plymouth, MA 02360.
