Obituary

Paul M. Smith of Carver passed away on November 10, 2020 at the age of 76. Beloved husband of Alice (Rogers) Smith; loving father of Sharon Smith of Norton, Michael Smith of Mansfield, Paul Smith and his wife Gina of Maryland, and Robert Smith of Foxboro; cherished grandfather of Steven, Garrett, Ryan, Allison, Colby, Avery, Austin, Kyla, Gus, Jessica, Charlie, and great-grandchildren Liam, Krystal, Westley, and William; dear brother of Mary Collins, Anne Walters, and the late George Smith, Peter Smith, Barbara Hebert, and Catherine Iafrate.

Paul was raised in West Roxbury and spent summers in Marshfield, Massachusetts. He attended Boston schools but his education was gained through living life to its fullest. He met the angel he made his wife horseback riding, but automobiles were more his speed. He found pit crewing and racing a favorite past time at Norwood and Thompson Speedways and owned an autobody shop in Norwood, Massachusetts for several years. Paul later gave up business ownership and worked for Boston Edison until he retired in 2003.

He made home with his wife and four children in Mansfield, Massachusetts from 1973 to 2012. Having grown up with a father who did it all, Paul enjoyed demolition and renovation. There wasn't a job that was too big to undertake. He purchased a second home in Florida in 2008 and that was a labor of love which he continued to work on throughout the years. After selling his Mansfield home, he purchased and renovated a home in Carver, Massachusetts.

An incredibly generous and loving man, Paul made friends everywhere he went but his childhood friends remained his closest companions throughout his life. He loved boating and the ocean and later learned to appreciate the Gulf in Venice, Florida where he recently became a permanent resident. Paul often found enjoyment sitting in his recliner watching golf, football and NASCAR. He was a lifetime member of the Lodge of Boston Elks and joined the Moose Club in Florida.

Paul was the life of the party and enjoyed making other people happy. He had a zest for life and lived 100 lifetimes in the 76 years we had him. Up until his final days, he grabbed life, kissed it, and swung it on the dance floor.
