Obituary

Pauline A. (Markey) Bowers of Duxbury and Scituate, formerly of West Roxbury, died at her home on November 7, 2015 following a short illness surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was the devoted wife of the late John T. Bowers Jr., MD, dear mother of John T. Bowers III, MD of Norfolk VA, Paul M. Bowers of Scituate MA, Kathryn E. Bowers, MD of Concord MA, Patricia E. Bowers of West Bridgewater MA, Julie A. Bowers NP of Charlestown, MA and the late Susan Bowers. Pauline was the beloved grandmother of Elizabeth G. Manson, Timothy J. Bowers, Roberto B. LaColla, Domenico LaColla, Brittany E. Canniff, Drew B. Canniff, James W. Terhune, and Maria Elena Terhune, and was the proud great grandmother to Thomas B. Manson, Luke J. Manson and Dillon J. Bowers. She was the daughter of the late James and Doris Markey of East Walpole and was pre-deceased by her four sisters Elsie Phillips, Emily Kussmaul, Irene Levangie, Mildred Mallon and her late brother Alfred Markey.

After graduating from the Mass Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, Pauline worked as a head nurse at Mass Memorial and at Norwood Hospital. She helped operate her husband's busy Roslindale Pediatric office and raised five children while contributing to the community as a Cub Scout Leader, Holy Name Parish Bernardine Society member and religious education volunteer. She was a member of the Scituate Harbor Yacht Club, the Scituate Country Club and the Fox Fire Country Club of Naples, FL. One of her greatest joys was playing on the Scituate Country Club ladies golf traveling team. She was president of the St. Elizabeth's Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, served as a parent activity coordinator at Roxbury Latin School and as a volunteer at the Naples Community Hospital. Pauline took great pleasure helping organize the annual St. Patrick's Day Parade and other events for the Irish-American Club, Naples, FL where she spent many wonderful winter months in retirement with John. She was president of the resident board at The Village at Duxbury, where she enjoyed her many special friends and was supported by a wonderful staff.

Pauline's greatest source of pride in life was her extended family, including the partners of her children, numerous nieces and nephews, and all of their children.
The family wishes to extend its gratitude to the staff of the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Plymouth and Boston Campus.
