Obituary

Peter J. Jones passed away peacefully on November 5, 2014, at home in Marshfield, surrounded by his loving family.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Gale M. ("Abigale") Jones and his three daughters, Deborah S. Jones of Quincy, Heather M. Jones-Lawlor and her husband Henry of Weston, and Tamara L. Schultz and her husband Douglass of Naperville, Il. He was the brother of Philip Jones of Brewster and Sandra Conti of Agawam. Also surviving are his beloved grandchildren, Julia, Celia and Aiden Lawlor; Griffin, Caroline and Lincoln Schultz; a niece and two nephews.

After graduating from Auburn High School, Peter earned his Bachelor's Degree from Clark University. He then attended University of Virginia where he received a Master's Degree in Public Administration.

During his life, Peter's family, public service and love of the ocean were his passions. He thoroughly enjoyed watching his children grow up and actively supported his daughters' hobbies and interests, including competitive swimming, dancing, and piano.

Over the last ten years, he wholeheartedly embraced his new role as grandfather and loved boating, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. Since retiring, he and his wife enjoyed spending winters with new friends at their home in Naples, Florida, and traveling.

Peter spent thirty-seven years in Federal personnel management positions, mainly at the Office of Personnel Management and the Department of Transportation's Volpe Center in Cambridge.

In addition, Peter spent over twenty-five years in service to the Town of Hanson, fifteen years on the Whitman-Hanson Regional School Committee and twelve years as a Hanson Selectman. Peter worked tirelessly during lengthy negotiations, which resulted in a successful two-town K-12 school system at substantial savings to Whitman and Hanson. Peter was especially proud of his eight undefeated Hanson elections.

For over thirty years, Peter loved to sail and race with friends out of the Green Harbor Yacht Club and served on its Board of Directors.

The Jones family welcomes friends and loved ones to celebrate his life on Sunday November 9, 2014, 2014 from 4-7 PM at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean St. Marshfield, MA.
