Philip “Phil” Brazao, age 70, of Marshfield, passed away peacefully on April 21st after a brief battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on May 13, 1955, in Somerville, Phil was the son of the late Antonio Brazao and Margaret (Mello) Brazao, and the brother of the late Ronnie Brazao and Richard Brazao. He spent his early years in Somerville, where his family created lasting memories, especially during summers in Brant Rock. At the age of 15, Phil made Brant Rock his permanent home when his family relocated there to operate the Brant Rock Grill.
Phil met his beloved wife, Jackie, when they were just 14 years old. Though they began as friends, their bond grew into a lifelong love. They married in 1979 at Assumption Church in Marshfield and shared 47 devoted years together.
Phil began his working life at the Quincy Shipyard, where he developed a deep connection to the sea. That passion led him to a lifelong career as a commercial fisherman, a profession he pursued with tireless dedication year-round until his passing.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jackie; his three children, Rachel Ledger and her spouse Todd, Philip Brazao Jr., and Sarah Gavoni and her spouse Kyle; and his six cherished grandchildren, Aidan, Emma, Jacob, Raegan, Myla, and Ayla. He also leaves behind many brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of friends who meant so much to him. He also leaves behind his fishing community family, especially his lifelong friends, Paul Unangst and Steve Lynch. Paul, with whom he spent many Summers in recent years fishing together in Chatham and when my mom wasn’t sure where my father was, chances were he was parked at Steve’s garage, spending time and sharing stories with his good friend.
Phil was a man who loved working with his hands and could fix just about anything. He had a knack for repurposing everyday items in creative ways around the house. A true car enthusiast, he enjoyed buying, trading, and talking about cars and trucks, often helping others find the right one. He also found joy in simpler moments, like playing Xbox with his son and grandsons. He had a well-known love of food—especially dessert—which he never passed up when dining out.
Above all, Phil’s greatest pride and joy was his family. He and Jackie raised three wonderful, resourceful children, of whom they were immensely proud. In later years, his happiest moments were spent with his grandchildren—lovingly nicknamed “Grumpy”—whether he was playing in the pool, relaxing in the hot tub, or sharing laughs and jokes. His home was always open, a gathering place filled with holiday celebrations, whiffle ball games, and lasting memories for family and friends.
His legacy of hard work, humor, and deep love for his family will live on in all who knew him. He will be deeply missed by all.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, April 27, 2026 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Ann by the Sea Parish Church, 587 Ocean Street in Marshfield.
