Philip V. Hammitt, 79, of Marshfield, passed away on April 18, 2018. Beloved husband of Dawn (O'Farrell) Hammitt; dear father of Michael Hammitt and his wife Shannon of Gorham, ME, Patrick Hammitt and his wife Suzanne of Cave Creek, AZ, and Heather Hammitt of Driggs, ID. Philip leaves two grandchildren, Rylee and Easton, siblings Sandra, Robert, James, Gail, Merne, and Wayne, and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Vern and Leeta (Donn) Hammitt and his brother, Donn.
Phil was an amazing man; he was a soccer coach and the Dad who could get all the kids to baseball and hockey, too. He loved walking on the beach with his wife Dawn, with whom he was to celebrate 50 years of marriage this June first. He enjoyed spending time with his granddaughter Rylee Dawn Hammitt.
Phil was fortunate enough to run his own family business, Hammitt Corp., which combined his passion for numbers and engineering. He went to Dockside Donuts every day to meet with his friends in the Humarock Breakfast Club. He enjoyed playing cribbage, bridge, and Sudoku along with his daily crossword puzzle. He loved to travel and was a diehard New England Sports fan, watching every Patriots and Red Sox game. He loved talking about the games with his nephew Matt. He loved talking politics and was always willing to debate you.
Phil was a loving, generous, kind leader, father, husband, and friend. He had a kind word for everyone and was known for his dry humor filled with riddles and puns who brought everyone who knew him the gift of laughter. He was an unsung hero, who always wanted to help but never looked for the recognition.
