It is with great sadness that the family of Philippa Mary Eccleston (formerly Fitzgerald), aged 91, announces her passing away at home on Monday, October 7, 2023 after falling ill. Although Irish in ancestry, she was born in Watford, England, and lived in London during World War II. After marrying American serviceman, Richard Walter Eccleston, she moved several times between the US and England, including time in Colorado, and eventually settling in Marshfield, Massachusetts. She often summered at her home in Balbriggan, Ireland.
Primarily a homemaker, especially with 9 children, Philippa also worked for a period at Jordan Marsh in downtown Boston. Known for her exceptional gardening skills, Philippa spent much time tending to her abundantly overflowing garden as well as its two koi ponds. She had a great love of animals and for many years often had many cats as well as dogs sharing her home. She had a love for the arts and world history, as well as a passion for lively conversation over a proper cup of tea.
An only child, Philippa went on to have 9 children, 21 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren. Beloved wife of the late Richard W. Eccleston, she is survived by her children Richard Eccleston and his wife Joy Connell, Patrick Eccleston, Catherine Eccleston; Caroline Eccleston, Cynthia Eccleston, Jennifer McClendon and her husband Bill, and Christopher Eccleston. Philippa is predeceased by children Marina Dubois, (husband Andy), and Michael Eccleston (wife Kathleen Eacrett). She also leaves her grandchildren Alison and Samantha, Michelle, Jason and David, Rachel, Melanie, Gabrielle, Aiden and Vanessa; Cavan and Zachary, Elizabeth, Ashley, Monica, William and Richard, Leighanne and Owen, Aaron, Hillary and Eliot, and Jason; and 22 cherished great-grandchildren.
