Obituary

Ralph Bennett, 87 of Green Harbor, passed away on June 6th,2023 surrounded by family.  Ralph is survived by his wife and best friend of 62 years Margaret (Sullivan) Bennett of Marshfield. Beloved father to Michael Bennett of Marshfield, Susan Bennett of Marshfield and Cyndi and her husband John Figlioli of Plymouth and their three children Matthew Figlioli, Brendan Figlioli and Emma Figlioli all of Plymouth.  Ralph is also survived by his sister MaryAnn and her husband Charles Newbold of Westford and his Sister in Law Jane Moore and her late husband Richard of Hanover. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.

Ralph was the son of the late Ralph H and Irene (Meuse) Bennett of Marshfield, the late Irene and Michael Kerrigan of Maine and Carol Allen of Marshfield whose surviving husband John has been his best friend since they met at Marshfield High School.

Ralph spent most of his childhood in Dorchester transferring from Boston Latin High School to Marshfield High School where he graduated from in 1951. In the mid 50's Ralph transitioned from being in the Naval Reserves to the Air Force, Air Police Squadron.  While in the Air Force he met the love of his life Margaret Sullivan from Cambridge. They married in August of 1960 and raised three children in Marshfield. Ralph was a computer programmer and had his own business for several years (Bennett Date Processing) before joining Agar Supply Co. and ultimately retired from there in 1998.

Ralph enjoyed fishing and clamming off his boat with his son Michael, and his brothers in-law. Ralph passed on his love of fishing and boating to his son Michael.  He loved to spend hours in his garden growing tomatoes, squash, peas and pumpkins. He would spend an entire weekend every year making pickles from the cucumbers he grew and sharing them with his friends and neighbors.   He enjoyed watching all the Boston sports teams, especially the Patriots.  He especially enjoyed it when his son in-law John and grandson Matthew watched with him.  Ralph loved when his grandkids were around and his grandson Brendan often enjoyed coming over and helping him with the computer and other things around the house.  Ralph would tell him story after story, something Brendan says he will miss greatly. He was also an avid reader, frequently finishing a book a day and his favorites were murder mystery books.  Ralph often said that this favorite thing to do was go ball room dancing with his Margie doing the Waltz, Swing and Samba the whole night through.  He was a member of the South Shore Dancers and enjoyed weekends away in New Hampshire and on the Cape enjoying the time with his dance friends whom he cherished.  After Ralph was no longer able to dance he and Margie still gathered monthly with these cherished friends for lunch or dinner. Ralph also enjoyed watching his granddaughter Emma's dance recitals and competition videos. Even though he couldn't get there, he loved to watch her dance.

Ralph's generous spirit and quick wit will surely be missed.
