Rebecca "Becky" A. (Shrake) Shiaris of Marshfield:

If you grew up in the Eames Way School area of Marshfield and enjoy reading, Becky Shiaris, who was the elementary school librarian for over 20 years, may have nurtured your life-long love of books. She passed peacefully at home this Thanksgiving Day, November 25 ^th , 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 70. The long struggle never took away her dignity, optimism, or love-of-life. Indeed, this past holiday symbolizes all the good that she embraced for family, friends, and humanity. We lost someone who embodied integrity and kindness and engaged in activities to make the world a better place.

Becky established the Eames Way library when the school re-opened its doors in 1993. Over the years she dedicated herself to building the collection, reading to students, and cultivating an environment for the development of booklovers. Her passion extended beyond the classroom and into the community as she was the go-to for book recommendations amongst her friends and family. She found great joy in passing along a favorite story.

The only thing that Becky loved more than books was her family. In 2015, she retired so that she could devote more of her time as Grammy to her beloved grandchildren. She thrived in retirement, enjoying time with friends and family, and pursuing her hobbies. She was a scrapbooker-extraordinaire. She captured over 20 years' worth of memories in over 40 scrapbooks. She faced the COVID challenge in spring 2020 by sewing over 1500 masks for family, friends, school children, and hospital nurses at a time when masks were scarce.

Becky is survived by her husband, Michael Shiaris, daughter, Nicole Sikorski, son-in-law, Robert Sikorski, and two grandchildren, Isla and Devin Sikorski. She also leaves behind her brother Tom Shrake, and sisters Linda Crocker and Bobbi Jo Beeble.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. in the North Community Church, 72 Old Main Street in Marshfield Hills. Family and friends are welcome to attend.

The "Becky Shiaris Eames Way School Library Scholarship" is being prepared to provide funds to a graduating Marshfield High School senior, whose reading and academic interests were influenced at EWS, to help the student pay for college.
