Obituary

Lt. Richard M. Batts of Marshfield and Naples, Florida, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on August 1, 2025. Predeceased by the love of his life, Barbara A. (Feroli) Batts, he was the loving father of Carolyn and her husband Michael Devine of Marshfield, Rick and his wife Vicky Batts of Old Lyme, CT, and the late Kristin DeYoung and her late husband Kenneth of Dorchester; cherished grandfather of Samantha Black and her husband Anthony, Michaela Devine, Matthew Batts and Alexandra Batts, and great-grandchildren Sophie, Bennett, and Brady; dear brother of the late Charles and Paul Batts. He also leaves a sister in-law Carole Demers, brother in-law James Feroli, and many nieces and nephews.

Son of the late Charles and Dora (O'Connell) Batts and born and raised in Quincy, Richard was a graduate of Quincy High School and Boston State College. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1954 to 1957 then graduated from the Massachusetts State Police Academy in 1959. Richard retired from the State Police with the rank of Lieutenant, then served as a Federal Air Marshal for the FAA. Upon retirement, Richard would spend many years wintering in Naples, Florida with family and friends.

Richard and Barbara met in Marshfield and enjoyed 54 wonderful years of marriage. He was an avid sports fan of the Boston and New England teams but above all Richard's greatest joy in life was his family – they were his pride and joy – and he felt blessed to be a grandfather and great-grandfather (Papa). His legacy is his loyalty and unwavering love to his family and friends, and he will be missed beyond words.
