Chisholm, Richard S., of Duxbury, passed away on March 3, 2016 at the age of 92. Richard was the beloved husband of Eleanor (Ellie) (Hayne) Chisholm for 67 years and the loving father of C. Mark and daughter-in-law Vanessa Chisholm of Taos, NM, Philip Chisholm of Norfolk, VA, and the late Lawrie C. Chisholm. Richard is also survived by his two grandchildren Lydia Chisholm of Winter Park, CO and Molly Chisholm of Taos, NM, and will be sorely missed by all, including his dog Charlie.
Richard was born to Earl and Edna (Sweetser) Chisholm in Malden, MA in 1923. He graduated from Malden High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology from Boston University. Like many of this great generation, Richard served his Country during World War II. He served with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific from 1943 to 1946, held the rank of Fire Controlman First Class, and was awarded many medals and ribbons in recognition of his service in this time of war.
In the private sector, Richard held the title of Director of Public Relations and Ad Valorem Tax for the Algonquin Gas Transmission Company, now known as Spectra Energy. Richard was an integral part of the team responsible for bringing natural gas to New England via a 1,100 mile long pipeline system which originates in the Gulf of Mexico.
From the earliest days of his childhood, summers were spent at his family home on Shipyard Lane. Richard enjoyed a great love of the ocean and most notably of Duxbury Bay. His passion for this area was deep and real, surpassed only by the love he had for his family. Richard was a Little League coach, enjoyed ice-skating on Island Creek Pond and was a member of the Marshfield Country Club.
