Obituary

Richard J. Cooley, 84, of Marshfield passed away on January 19, 2021, surrounded by love, after struggling for several years with Parkinson's Disease.

He is the son of Lewis and Ethel Cooley, deceased. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Joan (Vallario) Cooley, his son Douglas and wife Dawn (Picewick) Cooley and his two grandsons Henry and Harrison Cooley of Marshfield.

Richard was born in East Hartford, CT and moved while in grammar school to Portsmouth, NH, graduating from Portsmouth High School, He went on to graduate from the University of New Hampshire with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business and a Master's Degree from Northeastern University in Boston.

He began his career as an executive trainee at Jordan Marsh Company and went on to Western Electric in No. Andover, MA. He then found his true career in the U.S. Chamber of Commerce as an executive, at the Greater Lowell and the Greater Boston Chambers in MA, Greater Newark, NJ, Greater Hartford, CT and, finally, at the Greater Brockton MA Chambers. Richard then changed course to work in property management for several years, finally ending his career at New England Villages, as Operation Manager of their sheltered workshops, from which he retired.

He and his wife, Joan, enjoyed traveling together to Hawaii, many Caribbean Islands, France, Germany, Austria, Italy, Sicily, Switzerland, Greece, Turkey, and the countries along the Adreatic Sea, until he was stricken with Parkinson's Disease and was unable to travel.

Richard loved sports, particularly tennis, water skiing, canoeing, fishing, snorkeling, scuba diving, and skiing. He totally enjoyed watching his grandsons Henry and Harrison at their little-league baseball games, starting with T-ball through their high school years. He also enjoyed watching Henry play football and soccer for several hears and Harry playing soccer from 6 years old until present at Marshfield High School.

A memorial mass and celebration of life will be held at a later date when the covid-19 pandemic has been controlled.
