Richard "Greg" H. Studley, formerly of Marshfield, has passed away at his home in Dallas, Texas following a period of declining health. He was 77 years of age. Also known as "Dick" and "Greg", he was born in Plymouth to Dorothy (Dot) and Wendell Studley. His brothers William (Billy) and Roger Studley predeceased him, and he is survived by numerous cousins. Greg married Roxanna Tiroff five years ago and they resided in Irving, Texas. He has 4 stepchildren whom he was close to: Oliver DuBose, Mary DuBose, Camille DuBose, and Paul DuBose.
Greg Graduated from Marshfield High School in 1964, where he was the quarterback for the football team. After high school he joined the U.S. Marine Corps. He was chosen as the honor graduate of his boot camp platoon at Paris Island, South Carolina and served in the Guard Force Branch of sensitive Material with a Secret Clearance, White Sand Missile Range, New Mexico.
After serving with the Marines, Greg became a Massachusetts State Police Trooper. He graduated with honors from the State Police academy in Framingham, MA and served in the State Police Supervisor/Sergeant Explosives Detection Canine Unit. He worked out of the Norwell State Police barracks most of his career; part of that time he worked as a K9 officer. He then moved on to work at Logan Airport in Boston with his K9. He was a Supervisor/Master trainer for the International Police Work Dog Association, and Police Sergeant for the Metro Transit Police. He received the Merit Award of Honor, the highest honor the Commonwealth bestows on a law enforcement officer.
After 37 years with the Massachusetts Police Department, Greg retired and joined the Department of Homeland Security, where two of his friends started the Canine Division at the airports around the country. He was stationed in El Paso Texas and met Roxanna, who was working with Department of Homeland Security.
Greg enjoyed his recent years living in Texas He was passionate about football and enjoyed watching the games with his friends and family in Irving. Greg enjoyed being outdoors playing golf and long daily fitness walks, which he continued along with strength training, until his illness.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. and will conclude with a Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield. Burial will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
