Richard J. O'Brien, 87, of Green Harbor, formerly of Watertown and Arlington. Died peacefully August 22, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family. He graduated from Watertown High School in 1945, and served his country in Italy during World War II. Dick and his late beloved wife Irene (McDonald) O'Brien raised their six children near Spy Pond in Arlington. He was a longtime employee of New England Telephone. Dick and Irene retired to Green Harbor, where they had summered as children and met on Duxbury Beach. Dick is survived by his sister Mary Johnson of Watertown; his children Kathleen O'Brien of Green Harbor; Paul O'Brien of Hamden CT, his wife Marita and children Shannon and Colin; Philip O'Brien of Stoughton, his wife Melanie and daughter Erin; Maureen Martling of Grass Valley, CA, her husband Randy and children Taylor, Kayla, Laura and Ronnie, Jane Fichera of Jackson, NH, her husband John and their children Matthew, Douglas, and Allison. Dick's son Richard O'Brien passed away in 2000, leaving his wife Kate and children Madeleine, Eve, and Christopher. Great grandfather of Mya, Chad and Henrik. Dick was predeceased by a sister, Alice Reardon. Our large extended family will remember Dick very fondly. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 11:00 AM in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 40 Canal Street, Marshfield.
