Kordas, Richard S., of Green Harbor, passed away on March 5, 2017 at the age of 84. Beloved husband of the late C. Joyce (Winn) Kordas and dear father of Carol Kordas of Green Harbor, Richard is predeceased by a sister, Dorothy Fox, but leaves his brother Thomas Kordaszewski of Bonita Springs, Florida, and 9 nieces and nephews.
Richard was born in the West End of Boston to the late Stanley and Bolivia (Whitechen) Kordaszewski. He was a graduate of Boston English High School and later earned his Business Degree from Boston University. Richard joined the Coast Guard in 1950 and proudly served in New Jersey, Baltimore, and New York. He married in 1954 and lived in Dorchester, Roslindale, and West Roxbury before moving in 1974 to live year round in his summer home in Green Harbor.
Richard worked for the Boston Globe for many years before retiring around 2005. He enjoyed walking, trips to the casinos, and sharing stories of his Coast Guard days.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street (Rte. 139) in Marshfield. Funeral procession from the funeral home on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. for a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 40 Canal Street, Marshfield. Burial will be at a later date.
