Mandile, Richard Francis "Richie", "Dick", "Beepa" or "Grampy", of Marshfield, passed away peacefully on July 9 at the age of 92. Beloved husband of almost 60 years to the late Marilyn Mandile of Marshfield; loving father of Richard J. Mandile "Rick" and his wife Carleen of North Kingstown, RI, Brian Mandile and his wife Jill of Marshfield, Kristen Mooney and her husband Timothy of Scituate, the late Karen Mandile Duross and her late husband Charles "Jamie" Duross; cherished grandfather of Mackenzie and Caleb, Alexandra "Ali", Margaret "Maggie" and Katherine, Charles James "CJ", Jack and Liam, and Carolyn, Coleman, and Ava; great grandfather of Nora, Griffin and Sophia.
Richard was born to the late Fred Mandile and Margaret (Marchese) Mandile of Boston on February 6, 1932. He was the brother of the late Margaret "Peggy" Mandile of Medfield, late Rev. Fr. John "Jack" Mandile of Weston, Geraldine Robson of Medfield, Mary Newton of Idaho, Francis Mandile of Medfield, and Carole LaFreniere and her husband Leo of Wareham.
Growing up in West Roxbury Dick attended Boston College High School and then worked briefly for the US Postal Service before joining the Air Force to serve throughout the Korean Conflict stationed in France. Returning from the service Dick attended Boston College to become a teacher. While studying at BC Dick met the love of his life Lynn (Hart) Mandile. In 1963 Lynn and Dick moved to Union Street in Marshfield to start their teaching careers and their family. They built the family home on Boles Road in 1964 and raised their 4 children in town.
As a foreign language teacher Dick taught in the Norwell and Rockland school systems for over 20 years. Following his teaching career Dick returned to the Postal Service to be a mail carrier in Boston's Back Bay for another 15 years.
Dick was always proud of his children and their home on Boles Road. Dick was very active in his retirement with wife Lynn being a member of the Marshfield Sr. Center and the St. Christine's community.
Dick and Lynn were also passionate about gardening. As a member of the SeaSide Gardeners of Marshfield they helped beautify traffic islands around town. For many years they could be found decorating the Daniel Webster Estate at Christmas time. Dick and Lynn also took great pride in their home gardens and spent many many loving hours tending to them.
Dick's priorities were family, friends and faith. His faith, though quiet, was his strength.
Dick loved to vacation with Lynn and spend time relaxing on the shore, especially along the RI coast and in Florida. For over two decades Lynn and Dick vacationed summers in Narragansett with the extended Mooney family. He loved spending time with the extended family going to the beach, the Big F Golf Tournament and attempting to play card games. We will miss his constant smiling, humming and singing (in French or English). Our biggest supporter and proud of us all. He provided us the example of how to love life and always be happy. He will be missed by the friends he made these past few years at Proprietors Green in Marshfield.
