Born: July 19, 1935 – Hartland, Maine
Passed: January 9, 2026 -- Marshfield, Massachusetts
Richard Brian Martin, 90, of Marshfield, MA, passed away peacefully Friday, January 9th, 2026.
We remember Richard as a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and cherished member of his community. His journey through life was marked by dedication to his family, his service to his country, and his commitment to shaping lives through education/ public service.
Born to Clyde and Corinne Martin, Richard was the eldest of five siblings—Roger, Bayne, Marilyn, half-brother Elbert Duncan, and half-sister Ann Provost. His early years in Maine shaped his love for outdoors and athletics, which remained constant throughout his life. Richard graduated from Hartland Academy in 1953 and played on a talented Hartland Academy baseball team that went to the Maine state finals in 1952.
His service to the United States began in the Army from1954-1956 and his highest rank was Specialist 4. Supported by the GI Bill, he pursued higher education at the University of Maine, earning both a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s in education—foundations that would guide his successful career.
For 33 years, 1965-1998, Richard worked with the Department of Labor, helping to uplift communities through the Job Corps program, which provided training and vocational skills. His career culminated in serving as the Boston Regional Director, a role in which his passion for mentorship and development truly shone.
After Job Corps, Richard was the Veterans Officer for the Town of Marshfield, Massachusetts, until his retirement in 2010. His work resulted in increased veteran signups for all entitled benefits, organization of overseas food shipments to soldiers during the Afghanistan War and publication of the Marshfield Bugle newsletter.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Richard was a lifelong learner and adventurer. He found joy in saltwater boating and fishing, capturing the beauty of nature through photography, and spending quiet moments lost in the pages of a good book. He valued community, serving on the Marshfield School Committee from 1974 to 1977 and as a dedicated member of the North Community Church in Marshfield. He loved Boston sports, and was a long-life Red Sox fan. His favorite player was Ted Williams.

(Meghan) Martin of Lewes, DE and Terry H.(Jan) Martin of Marshfield, MA, his grandchildren, Dan (Rhea) Martin of West New York, NJ, Emily Martin of Lewes, DE, Rose (Colby) McGinn, of Shrewsbury, MA , Kennan Martin, of Storrs, CT, Sydney Martin of NY, NY and Jarred Martin of Boston, MA, and his great grandchildren Cyril and Cadell Martin of West New York, NJ.
