Obituary

Ross, Richard T. (Norwell) - With great sadness, the family of Richard Ross announces his passing. He passed with peace and grace on Saturday, May 23, 2020, at the age of 85 years.

Son of the late Ella (Martinson) and Thomas Ross. Dickie grew up in the North Quincy area. He was the brother to Eddie (Marilyn), Eileen (Carlton), Lorraine, Linda, Donna and Robbie (Mary). One of his favorite pastimes was swimming in the Neponset River with friends and family. He was an avid auto mechanic. He enjoyed repairing and building vehicles. At most, he utilized his skills helping many throughout his lifetime.

He met our mom, Marion (Golden) Schuchert at North Quincy High. They moved to Braintree having three children, the late Richard E., David and Sharon (Thomas). He owned his own roofing company and was also a Ship Fitter for General Dynamics Shipyard. Eventually they settled in Marshfield having another son, James (Rene).

One of our mom's fondest memories were the camping trips we took as a family, accompanied by family members and their friends. She recalls spending Saturday nights at Lou's Restaurant and their steak dinners. David recalls the times they spent together, working on various projects together, while our Dad provided guidance and sharing his knowledge. Sharon fondly remembers while growing up that he was always there, including driving her and her friends around Marshfield, or wherever they wanted to go. She cherishes the memories of when he would visit and how happy he was to be with her family, grand, and great grandchildren. He leaves behind four grandchildren, Amanda, Brittany, Colby and Devin, four great grandchildren, Alani, Malakai, Charlee, and Blakelee, and many nieces and nephews.

My cherished memories of my father are the times he spent with his fur- grandchildren Baloo, Shanook and the others who've crossed The Rainbow Bridge. He needed three hands to keep up with the patting. While visiting, he would watch his favorite shows, "WWE Raw Wrestling" and "The Curse of Oak Island" with Rene. He always looked forward to Rene's home cooked meals, especially a BLT. At most, being there for me, we could call each other anytime of the day or night. He had a great "ear". As with Ricky, now with my dad, I await their calls from Heaven.

He loved to share his stories and experiences. His Aunt Eileen had said, " He was quite detailed in telling them". Many will agree, that was our father, loved to talk. He was also known for, not passing a "roadside treasure". If you knew our father, perhaps you have one or maybe more in your home. He was a giver, always lending a hand even if he just met you.

Our Dad had met Grace, spending several years with her and her children, in West Roxbury and Braintree. During this time, he became a bus driver for National School Bus Service for Boston Public Schools, where he met his good friend Virginia. Their cherished friendship lasted over 35 years. They enjoyed shopping and going out to eat with each other.

His granddaughter Brittany, had found a handwritten note by our Dad. The note he had written said:

"All my life my desire to visit the beautiful places of this earth has been so intense, that I cannot but hope that after my death I shall be permitted to go and look at them." - Harriet Beecher Stowe

"Yes, you can Dad!" Thank you for being you!
