Robert Leo Connelly (Bob, Bobby) 82, of Andover, MA, formerly of Marshfield, MA, and Sun City Center, FL, died peacefully on December 16th, 2020.
Bob was the oldest son and one of 7 children, born to Leo and Alice (Collins) Connelly and raised in Somerville, MA. Beloved husband of 50 years to Joan C. (Irwin) Connelly, devoted father of Robert L. Connelly Jr. of Boston, Julie and (Matthew) Rose of Manhattan, NY, Lisa Papineau of Wilmington and Michelle (Russell) Lamacchia of Worcester, proud "Papa" to his eight grandchildren, whom he adored: Emma, Samantha, Shane, Ryan, Patrick, Kenzie, Leo and Josie. Loving brother of Alice (Robert) Bessette, the late Clare (Richard) McHugh, William (Marie) Connelly, Leo (Barbara) Connelly, Joseph (Nancy) Connelly and Mary (Michael) MacDonald, sister in law, Mary (James) Norton, and late brother in laws John and Edward Irwin and many nieces and nephews.
Bob was a graduate of Somerville High School and Newbury College. Bob loved his family, friends and country. He proudly served in the U.S. Army. He was a dedicated Lineman for Boston Edison Co. and Braintree Electric Light Dept. Bob was a long time member and former President of the Utility Workers Union of America, Local 379.
Bob had such fond memories from his childhood spent summering at Green Harbor beach he decided to raise his family in Marshfield, MA. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed coaching his children in youth sports and teaching them his values of working hard, caring for others, and enjoying life. Bob was the rock of his family and was always there to help out a friend or neighbor. He loved listening to Irish music and his ability to complete crossword puzzles in minutes was legendary. Bob's quick wit will always be remembered through one of his many jokes and one-liners. When not with his family or on the golf course Bob liked to play cribbage and poker. During his retirement Bob enjoyed golfing as a member of the Renaissance Club and the long lasting friendships made living in Sun City Center, FL.
Bob was most proud of his family and his family's accomplishments. He and Joan recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. He took great pleasure in telling stories about the accomplishments of his grandchildren, children, siblings, nieces and nephews. His family deeply admired his quiet strength, loyalty, and character.
Burial will be private at The National Memorial Cemetery in Bourne, MA. A memorial mass and celebration of life will be held at a later date.
