Robert M. DiChiaro, of Marshfield, has passed away at the age of 52. Beloved son of the late Robert and Patricia (McGovern) DiChiaro and brother of Deana DiChiaro of Marshfield and the late Joseph McGovern. Robert leaves his two cherished "goombas" (nieces), Aitana Hue and Sadie Cariglio, both of Marshfield. He also leaves his dearest friends Erin Blazic, Kim Blackman and Frank Smith.
Rob was a former employee of the Barnside Tavern, where he worked alongside his father and friends that he would have throughout his life. He was also a long-time employee of Crown Automotive in Marshfield. It was at his time at Crown that Rob was introduced to the Special Olympics. He had a special place in his heart for the people and athletes that he had the privilege to work with during his time volunteering with the Special Olympics. Especially Joanie, Becky, Patrick "Chubs", David "Thunder", George and Josh "Nothing But Trouble. Rob loved to give out nicknames to all of his friends and you knew how much he cared for you once he gave you a nickname that would last forever.
Rob was an enthusiastic Boston sports fan, but especially loved the Bruins and the Patriots. Hockey was a passion from an early age and Rob backboned the Marshfield HS Hockey Team – playing net for the 83-84 Rams. Rob had an outstanding Senior season and was named to the Old Colony League All-Star game as one of the 2 starting goalies in that game. His passion for hockey never died and he continued playing in both Street and Roller Hockey Leagues well into his late 30's. Rob's other passions including anything to do with personal fitness – he loved going to the gym, playing tennis, rollerblading and bike riding. He also loved to do anything outside where he could be in the sun "frying his carcass" – whether it was relaxing on the beach or playing in a Baggo tournament with all of his friends. Because of his time at the gym and working out, Rob loved to be out in the sun with his shirt off. He used to love to say that his body was his temple. His friends at the beach used to say that if Rob's body was fine china – then theirs were paper plates!
Rob was a true friend and never met a person he didn't like. He was a friend to all and would literally give the shirt of his back to a person in need. He will be missed more than words can say. Fly pelican fly!
