Robert "Bob" Forti of Marshfield passed away Sep. 24, eleven days before his 98th birthday, taken down suddenly by Covid even though he was fully vaccinated. Bob was born in Roxbury, son of the late Vincent and Mary (McKeon) Forti. He was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Mary Calderwood. Father of Susan Forti and her husband Bob Houlihan of Roslindale and Jeffrey Forti with whom he lived in Marshfield. He was predeceased by brother Joseph and sister Claire Manning.
Bob was raised and educated in Boston (Boston English High School class of 1943) and he earned a degree in Business Management from Suffolk University. He enlisted in the US Army Air Corp in January 1943 and served as a Bombadier Instructor and Tactical Officer. He worked for several financial institutions before joining the Rockland Federal Credit Union where he held various positions, retiring as President and ultimately serving as Vice President of the Board.
Bob was a natural athlete and loved all sports. He played tennis until age 90 and the Green Harbor Golf Course helped him celebrate his 95 th birthday after a round of golf that day, his last, after 25 years. He bowled weekly in the winter and as recently as a month before his death.
Bob was also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. One of his favorite days of the year was the annual family picnic hosted by his nephews Jim and Steve Forti of Norwell, where he enjoyed the company of his extended family and friends.
Bob will be sorely missed. All arrangements are private.
