Robert J. Hartigan, 80, of Marshfield, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2026, after a long illness.

Born in South Boston, he was the son of the late Robert and Helen Hartigan.

Bob was the beloved husband of 53 years to Diane (Belmore) Hartigan. He was the cherished father of Jill (Hartigan) Boudreau of Bridgewater; Brian and his wife Hannah Hartigan of Marshfield; and Michael Hartigan of Plymouth.

He was the proud and loving grandfather of Emma, Grace, and Macey, who brought him immense joy.

Bob is also survived by his loving sister, Claire (Paul) Hynes of Milton and his brother, David (Judith) Hartigan of Quincy along with his sisters- and brothers-in-law, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

In 1974, Bob moved to Marshfield, where he raised his family. He worked for Eagle Electric and Pentair Hoffman Engineering before retiring. A devoted Boston sports fan, he was a longtime hockey coach for his sons’ teams and remained involved in the sport for many years.

Bob enjoyed reading and running and was a proud member of the Marshfield Road Runners. He also enjoyed traveling to warm-weather destinations, especially Scottsdale, Arizona, and Sanibel Island, Florida.

Later in life, his greatest joy was spending time with his three granddaughters. He treasured every moment with them—from reading and swimming to seeing them off on the school bus and cheering them on at their activities, including cheerleading and gymnastics meets.

Bob was always there for his children and grandchildren, never hesitating to lend a helping hand. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, March 22, 2026, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, March 23, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Christine’s Church, 1295 Main Street (Route 3A), Marshfield. Friends and family are welcome to gather at the funeral home at 9:00 a.m. on Monday for the funeral procession. Burial will be in Couch Cemetery.
