Robert S. MacConnell, of Marshfield, passed away on October 11, 2017 at the age of 88. Robert leaves his loving companion, Barbara Bailey of Cambridge and is survived by his daughter Susan McKenney and her husband Scot McKenney, grandchildren Amanda, Cole and Robbie McKenney; daughter in-law Patti MacConnell and grandchildren Grant Jr, Stephanie MacConnell, and daughter in-law Michelle MacConnell, and great-grandson Lucas Madden. He is predeceased by his son, Grant MacConnell.
Robert was born in Melrose to the late Norman and Edythe (Grant) MacConnell and graduated from Newton High School and Brown University, where he was Captain of the 1952 Baseball Team and was inducted in to the Hall of Fame for Baseball and other sports in 1971. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, enlisted from 1952 to 1954. He taught at Marshfield High School from 1961 to 1995, where he also served as Athletic Director and Driver Education Instructor. Robert was a proud member of Marshfield Country Club for 48 years.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, October 15, 2017 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street (Rte. 139) in Marshfield. A Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, October 16, 2017 at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Coach MacConnell can be made to the Marshfield High School Athletic Department, 167 Forest Street, Marshfield MA 02050.
