Robert J. Maffeo, Sr. of Norwood passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 6, 2014 at the age of 97. Bob was born August 20,1917 in Boston. He was the beloved husband to Ruth McNulty Maffeo,deceased, father to five children Roberta Starne, Janyce Langheld (recently deceased), Robert Maffeo Jr., Denise Cartwright and Deborah Ahern and was loved by all 14 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was a good, kind brother to Frank Maffeo (deceased) and his loving sister, Florence Malloy (deceased).
Bob grew up in Boston and moved to Norwood with his family in 1956. He was a Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus through the West Roxbury Council. During his early years, he was the owner of Brush Hill Liquors on Brush Hill Rd in Milton with his brother, Frank. They were also partners to the 5 Seasons Restaurant in Easton in which they ran a successful business until it was lost to a fire. Picking up the pieces at age 50 he became a top salesman as a Knights of Columbus Insurance Agent in which he won many trips around the world. At the same time he was a self taught chef and ran catering parties at the Roslindale Knights of Columbus. He loved family time and purchased a small summer cottage in Marshfield to build fond memories and instill the love of the ocean and woods for his children. When he retired, he traveled to Florida with his wife Ruth and his sister Florence every winter. He retired to Marshfield to be close to his son and live in a senior apartment. He enjoyed spending time at his son's restaurant and loved being with his children and grandchildren.
His favorite hobbies were cooking, gardening, golfing and puttering and he loved telling life stories. He also loved going to the senior center for lunch. Bob's favorite sentiments besides his love for family was "I have no regrets ", and he would often sing "I Did It My Way" by Frank Sinatra."
Visiting Hours are January 7th 4-8 at MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield. Services will be held January 8th at 10 am at Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Green Harbor preceding a private burial in Norwood to be laid to rest with his wife, Ruth.
