Robert "Bob"
McMahon
March 29, 2026
Robert (Bob) McMahon of Duxbury died on March 29, 2026 in Beth Isreal Deaconess Boston after a brief illness. Bob was born in 1931, the son of Felix and Theresa McMahon, and grew up in Milton, Massachusetts. He graduated from the University of Maine in 1953 with a degree in Engineering Physics, and went on to Harvard University to earn a master’s degree in Applied Science.
Bob was employed at Sigma Instruments in Braintree for many years as senior vice president, and eventually went on to co-found Sunrise Technologies in Raynham, a manufacturer of lighting controls for the electric utility industry. While at Sigma Instruments Bob also enjoyed teaching math at Northeastern University in the evening to students who had daytime jobs. He found this very rewarding, but when his work-related travel began to interfere, he reluctantly had to discontinue.
When not at work Bob loved being home with his family and could often be found in the backyard on his tractor mowing the lawn, repairing a split rail fence or tidying up one of mom’s flower gardens. He was an avid golfer introduced to the game as a teenager caddying at Wollaston Golf Course in Milton; he later became a member of the Duxbury Yacht Club. His move to Duxbury sparked an interest in early American antiques, and he spent many weekends with his wife, Sue, at antique shows and browsing local antique shops looking for ‘treasures’ for his 1806 cape cod house.
Bob leaves his loving wife, Suzanne (Goddard) of 67 years and his 3 children; his son Peter McMahon and his wife Catherine of Hudson, Massachusetts, his daughters, Deborah McMahon of Limington, Maine, and Sarah Holmes and her husband Willie of Wiggins, Mississippi, and his grandchildren Jaclyn McMahon, Collin McMahon and his wife Colleen, and Aaron Holmes. He also leaves an American Field Service ‘daughter’, Michelle Ortiz, an exchange student from Costa Rica, who now is an American citizen and a frequent visitor at the McMahon household.
A Celebration of Life is being planned for later in April. For updates on service date and time please visit the website https://www.macdonaldfuneralhome.com/
