Robert G. O'Keefe, of Duxbury, passed away on September 8, 2021, at the age of 76. Known as Bob and "Big O" to family and friends, he was the beloved husband of Nancy McDermott of Duxbury and father of Matthew O'Keefe of Boston and Connor O'Keefe of New York, NY. Son of the late Francis A. and Mary F. (Shea) O'Keefe, he was predecesed by his brother Francis "Frank" O'Keefe. He was the dear brother in-law of Judy O'Keefe of Winthrop, Rick and Janet McDermott of Norwood, Scott and Kelly McDermott of Medfield, and Paul and Laura McDermott of Duxbury.

Big O enjoyed every moment of his life. His greatest joy was spending time with family and friends. Bob grew up in Winthrop and went on to BC High, where he excelled at basketball. Bob was the highest scorer in the City of Boston in his senior year, eventually leading to his induction in the BC High Hall of Fame. This is where we learned that Bob never missed a dunk or a three point shot. Of course, as he reluctantly admitted he never attempted either. Then on to Holy Cross, meeting so many life-long friends.

Bob worked his entire career for the telephone company and moved to Bloody Pond in Plymouth. Life on the pond was constantly shared with nieces, nephews, and friends. In Plymouth, he began a 40 year membership at his second home, Plymouth Fitness. Nancy and Bob met in Plymouth where their twins Matt and Connor were born. The family moved to Duxbury and quickly became immersed in athletics of all types. Bob was an avid coach and fan of Duxbury tennis, football and lacrosse. When the boys headed to college, Bob became a huge fan of Northwestern football and Hopkins Lacrosse. His Boston sports roots were deep, following the Patriots, Celtics, and Bruins since childhood.

Bob leaves behind devoted family and friends, and will be sorely missed by all.

Please join Bob's family in a Celebration of his Life on Saturday, September 18th anytime between 4:00 and 8:00 p.m. at the Cask n Flagon in Marshfield. As Bob would want it, food and drink will be served. Go Big O!
