Robert (Bob) James Pannuto of Marshfield, 85, passed away peacefully on February 19th. Born and raised in Yonkers, NY, Bob was the son of the late Pio and Rafaela Pannuto. He graduated from New York University with undergraduate and master's degrees in meteorology. It was at an NYU frat party where he met his wife, Rita Schmitt. They married shortly after and had a loving marriage of 63 years.
After graduation, Bob joined the Air Force and he and Rita moved to Virginia where he was stationed at Langley AFB. He was then transferred to Newfoundland, Canada and upon discharge went to work as a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, his passion since he was young. He started his career in Long Island, moved to Hartford and eventually settled in Marshfield where he worked at Logan Airport for 30 years - enduring Boston traffic and winter blizzards. He loved forecasting the New England weather, thought the storms exciting, and said he wouldn't want to work anywhere else. After retiring, he and Rita spent their winters in Bonita Springs, FL where Bob played tennis daily and continued his love of learning by teaching college meteorology.
Back at home, Bob was an active member of St Christine's Church where he taught CCD and was a eucharistic minister. Bob loved his family and friends more than anything and had a genuine warmth and a smile for everyone. He coached his kids in baseball and loved traveling, playing tennis and fishing from his boat, aptly named Light & Variable.
He is survived by his loving wife Rita, his children Suzanne, Robert Jr, and David and his five grandchildren, Luke, Kylie and Ryan Stevens and Evan and Grace Pannuto. He was pre-deceased by his daughter-in-law Vanessa and his grandson Dylan Pannuto.
A mass celebrating his life will be held on Thursday, February 27th at 10:30am at St. Christine's Parish, 1295 Main Street in Marshfield, MA.
