It is with great sadness that the family of Robert L. Slattery (Bob) announces his passing after a long and hard-fought battle with Alzheimer's disease at the age of 79 on August 20, 2023. Robert was born in Boston to loving parents Leo and Josephine (Reardon) Slattery. He was a proud "double Eagle" graduate of Boston College High School and Boston College.
After graduating from BC in 1967, Bob worked for several prominent brokerage firms in both Boston and New York City. Bob went on to have a long, successful and distinguished career in the investment industry. At the time of his retirement, Bob was a beloved Managing Director with Smith Barney Citigroup, having managed their Hingham office for nearly ten years.
Bob's love of all things Boston College was evident to all who knew him. As a college freshman, Bob played running back for the Eagles until a severe back injury sidelined his football career. His support of both the school and the football program continued throughout his life as a proud alumnus, alumni parent, season ticket holder, and longtime donor.
Bob was preceded in death by his father, Leo, his mother, Josephine (Reardon), and his siblings Marie (Marshall), Jane, Paul, Carol (Khorsand), and William. He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Anne (Marron) Slattery, his loving children, Brendan and (Amy) Slattery of Ladson, SC, Margaret and (Andrew) Kara of Westwood, MA, Matthew and (Erin) Slattery of Hanover, MA, and Kathryn Slattery of Charlestown, MA. Bob is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Christian Sauceda-Slattery, Charles Slattery, Kathryn and Margaret Kara, and Phinnaeus and Colette Slattery. Bob also relished his role of uncle to his many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, August 24, 2023 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield.
