Marshfield, MA - Roger L. Alvey, a beloved husband, devoted father, loving grandfather and trained engineer, passed away on June 12, 2023, at the age of 87. He was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut in 1936 to his parents Leroy and Anna Alvey and his passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him.
Roger was a man of intellect and remarkable skills leaving behind a legacy that will forever be cherished. After attending Worcester Polytechnic Institute's engineering program, Roger served in the Air Force Reserve and married his high school sweetheart, Grace McGarva, in Fairfield, Connecticut on June 11, 1960.
His career began with PerkinElmer in 1960 in Norwalk, Connecticut. He later joined 3M and moved the family to Stillwater, Minnesota in 1969 and then to Marshfield, Massachusetts in 1973 where he spent the next 50 years building a life filled with love, happiness, and countless memories alongside his beloved wife. Their enduring partnership was an inspiration to all who knew them, and their unwavering love was a testament to the strength of their bond.
Besides his professional accomplishments, Roger's greatest joy in life came from his role as a father and grandfather. He leaves his sons Craig, Todd and Brent (wife Patricia), granddaughters Alexis, Sadie, Paige and Tanya, several nieces and nephews, as well as many dear friends that he considered family. He treasured every moment spent with them, and his presence brought immeasurable joy to their lives.
Roger will be remembered for his warm smile, his kind heart, and his unwavering love for his family. He leaves behind a legacy of compassion, integrity, and perseverance that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to have known him.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield and immediately followed by a memorial celebration of his life. In lieu of flowers, if you wish, consider donating to the Boys & Girls Club of Marshfield (P.O. Box 311, Marshfield, MA 02050) in Roger's name as this organization had a special place in Roger's heart.
Roger L. Alvey will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, his sons, his granddaughters and all his family and friends. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his memory continue to be a source of comfort and inspiration to all whose lives he touched.
