It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Roger Mark Freed. Roger passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2022, at the age of 65, after suffering a heart attack on the golf course. In true Rog fashion, he was making wise cracks waiting for the ambulance to the hospital. He will be missed beyond measure.
Roger was born at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston and grew up in Braintree. He was the much-loved father of Joanna McGrath (Joseph) of Milton, and Jerome (Jessica) of Scituate, former spouse of Leslie Roberts Freed of Marshfield, brother of Debra Hearn of Rockland and Cynthia Dacey (Kevin) of Pembroke. He was preceded in death by his father, Jerome of Braintree, and his mother Rita Sottile Freed of Halifax. He was the new grandpa to two beautiful grandsons, Kastan Anthony (11 months) and Matthew Jerome (3 months). He was the brother-in-law to 14, an uncle to 19, and great-uncle to 20…he absolutely cherished his family.
Roger graduated from Braintree High School in 1975 and received his Associates Degree from Massasoit Community College. With guidance from his uncle, he became an electrician. He started his company, Freed Electric, and has been in business for 40 years. Roger took immense pride in his work. He worked six days a week for 40 years and he'd let you know it. But his proudest achievement was his two kids, Joanna and Jerry. Over the years Rog coached his kid's soccer teams, cheered on his son playing football for the Rams & at Curry College. He loved his annual family trip to Disney World and could go on for hours with stories about his kids growing up.
His newest pride and joy were his two grandsons. He would have loved to watch them grow up.
His happy place was on his couch on School Street with a Pepsi and Brigham's vanilla ice cream watching the Red Sox or on a golf course in Naples.
While he had a tough exterior, he was the most loving father, husband, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, son, uncle, great-uncle, and friend that we could have ever asked for. To say we are heartbroken is an understatement, he will be missed more than words could articulate and we hope to continue to make him proud.
